Potty training timing question

Dd has been using the potty occasionally for about 4 months. She's been peeing in the potty fairly regularly (before taking a bath most nights) for maybe a month to six weeks. In the last two weeks, she's been using the potty at her own request at daycare and at home multiple times a day and is pooping in the potty/asking to do it.

When would you bite the bullet and go to training pants or real underwear? Fwiw, daycare assists with potty training if they are alreDy doing it but doesn't really push it till she moves up to the next age group in a few more months.

She is almost two, btw.

  • Also I know she's really young just seeing lots of interest in it and want to motivate her!

  • I would try it. If it doesn't work out you can always try later.

  • Has she been peeing in her diaper/pull ups? If not, I'd go for it. After 2 weeks of PT, Nora started refusing to wear pull ups or diapers, and we've only had one accident since then (3 or 4 weeks ago) and it was an overnight accident.

    Good luck!

  • My DD was trained before 2 years old.  I'd go for it and see how she does.
  • Give it a try! I would do real underwear; I don't see much use for pull ups.

  • My DD was fully PT at 2 years 11 months. Your DD is a little on the young side but you can always try and come back to it later if she's not showing signs of readiness. I would say try again in 6 months when she's 2 1/2 but don't stress if she isn't trained until nearly 3 or even later.
  • Thanks for all the encouragement ladies! I will talk to daycare tomorrow about their approach/how they handle going to underwear and see what see what we can do to get started!
