LO won't take bottle from Dad

Suddenly! My husband has been giving him a bottle of BM since he was 2 weeks and he's almost 12 wks. Since the start of this week he has been struggling taking the bottle. He's fussy and seems like he's choking, almost as if he forgot how to drink from it. We thought initially it was him just preferring the breast but I've given him 2 bottles myself this week and he took it fine. Has this happened to anyone? The only time dh gives him the bottle is bedtime so maybe he's just over tired and not really hungry? He's going to daycare Tuesday and will be with husband 2 days so I need help! How do I get him to take the bottle from someone other than myself?

  • I would seeing he will take a bottle from your hubby at a different time of the day. Try when he is relaxed and happy, before he gets upset fr being hungry or overtired.

  • Also you should try leaving the room.

  • My husband tends to try to watch tv or something else when he gives Leo a bottle. This leads to Leo sputtering and choking because he needs elevated and pace feedings. Maybe make sure your husband isn't tipping the bottle too high to cause a faster flow and is actually waiting for baby to latch bottle by teasing his lips and nose an not forcing it in his mouth.

  • He could try wearing one of your scarves to have your smell. Maybe feed LO the same position as you do and in the same place.
  • Thanks ladies! He sits in the same chair I do for feedings. Last night was better but not like it was. I'll have him try different times.
  • Mine gets like that when he has a gas bubble. Try also burping before starting. Also my older step daughter tried to give him a bottle once and he spit it right out. Although it didn't smell bad, I think the milk had gone bad. She has been able to give him many bottles now without a problem.
