Anyone know anything about cysts?

With my first 3 babies I only had an u/s at 20 weeks so I don't know if I had cycts or not.  I know you have one that the egg came from which produces progesterone until the placenta takes over but other than that I'm at a loss.  When I went to my OB appt on wednesday I got my first ever early u/s and she saw two cysts, one on each ovary about 2.5 cm (same size as baby).  She could feel one from the outside when doing a pelvic exam.  She wasn't concerned but wanted to check again at my 20 week u/s.  All she really said was that if there was more room in there for them to move it could be excruciatingly painful but since the uterus is bigger they shouldn't be able to.  Has anyone else had this or have this?  I've never been told I've ever had cysts so I'm a little concerned.

Re: Anyone know anything about cysts?

  • I had cysts prior to being pregnant. They went away on their own, but we're very painful. They didn't cause any problems for me, other than the pain.

  • I currently have one.  My OB is just going to monitor it throughout pregnancy.  If I feel pain then I pretty much know what its from.

  • I also have one. It's slightly over 4cm and has been there for 2 years. My doctor kind of wanted to have it removed b4 I got pregnant but was slightly too late. I have an appt on Thursday to see how he will treat it and check on baby.
  • I had 4 prior to getting PG again. They got bigger, then smaller, then went away. They are most certainly painful.

  • I know this is probably a dumb question, but is there much you can do for the pain if/when it gets to that point?

  • I had a cyst at my 6 week ultrasound and it was gone by my 8 week ultrasound.
  • i had many cysts for past 5 years n my ovaries that came and went prior to getting pregnant it can be very painful when they rupture. i spoke with my doctor about having them during pregnancy and he says as my pregnancy progress i should get less of them or none. he says since the body is no longer releasing eggs i should have less cysts. as long as they are not overly large or dangerous the doctor will just monitor them till your pregnancy is over. i usually take warm baths when its painfull i use to take alieve or ibuprofen

  • I get cysts pretty frequently but once I got pregnant, they went away. They hurt like hell sometimes. Birth control always took care of mine before pregnancy. Good luck. Take some tylenol for the pain and pray they go away soon! ! :)>-
