Pregnant after a Loss

UPDATE: A/S finds Placenta Previa + VCI

edited December 2013 in Pregnant after a Loss

I had my A/S today; since it's Saturday I don't actually have my follow up doctor appointment until Friday, but the tech saw it immediately. The placenta is completely covering my cervix apparently, and the tech suggested (of course didn't prescribe) no heavy lifting or sex or exercise.

This is upsetting me a lot. Maybe more than it should? It seems like every other day someone is posting some place that they have placenta previa but the stuff I read online is making me feel like any sudden move I make is going to cause my placenta to detach or something.

I was just getting to where I felt like I had my feet underneath me and this just totally and completely threw me for a loop.

I guess I should add to top it all off that I started crying on my way home an DH was all - "what's a matter with you?! Calm down!" He doesn't react very well to stressful situations, and it really pissed me off. So when we got home and still wasn't being sympathetic or even nice I left and bought DS some art supplies. He finally gave me a hug when I got home, but he really lost some cool points there.

*********UPDATE*****So I got a call from my doctor this morning. I thought they were just going to talk to me about the previa, and they did, but I also have VCI, where the cord inserts funny.

The nurse said it can cause growth problems, and she scheduled me for a follow up ultrasound with a perinatal doctor in 4 weeks to check on that.

Then I googled NCI, which is stupid. B/c it can lead to conditions that cause loss. And on its own it can cause birth defects.

Re: UPDATE: A/S finds Placenta Previa + VCI

  • I'm sorry you're taking it so hard and that DH isn't reacting how you need. As for the previa, it really doesn't have to be an awful thing. It's diagnosed now, which is the important thing. Now they know to keep an eye on it, and an eye our for any signs of labor. You aren't likely to detach it, but going into labor and dilating significantly could be dangerous, so take it easy.

my cousin had complete previa with her last, and all it meant was a scheduled c-sec. She went into early labor, so she wound up having an earlier c-sec, but that baby is now a thriving 4 yo.

  • I'm sorry for the difficult news and lack of support. I don't know much about the condition, but as ksulli said, I believe it's not usually unduly hazardous as long as it's diagnosed and monitored. ((((hugs)))

  • You are still early enough that it can resolve by the time you are term, also it means more chances to see baby on US to monitor it! Not a terrible perk!

  • I am sorry, that is stressful especially since you are unable to follow up right away. I would def listen to the tech and take it easy, at least until your doc can weigh in. Often previa will correct itself so hopefully that will be the case with you. Hang in there!

  • I received the same news at my A/S.

I'm reminding myself that there's nothing I can do about this (except follow Drs. orders) and while MFM and OB say this clears up the majority of the time, I'm preparing myself that a C/S may have to happen...but if that's what it takes to get a healthy baby home...

  • Thanks guys. Not having an immediate follow up was why I had held off doing Saturday U/S's for a while, but I was going to be 22 weeks by the time I had my A/S if I didn't go ahead and go in on the weekend. I mean, of COURSE it couldn't all just go smoothly. That would just be too easy right?

As for DH, of course eventually calmed down and started acting like a person. This is normal for him unfortunately, so it's even more irritating that I can just see him going through his stages...can we please just fast forward, like, once in a freakin' while? Oh, no? Ok. Fine. You suck.

  • Thanks again ladies, I actually didn't realize it could still shift since I'm about 20.5 weeks and it's complete. Perhaps it will.

My last delivery was a C Section and this one will be an RCS anyway, so that part isn't going to be a problem. Maybe if I have no complications then the pelvic rest and no heavy lifting will be the only ways this one is different...hopefully.

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I received the news that I had placenta previa at my 16 week ultra sound and all they recommended was no sex, nothing about exercise or heavy lifting. I too, took to google and got all freaked out. I still did yoga this weekend and all was fine, but I'm trying to take it easy otherwise. When is your next scan? I hope it clears up for you soon. ((Hugs))
