Ultrasound

Anyone else not yet seen there LO on an ultrasound? I'm almost 15 weeks and I go for my first ultrasound on Dec. 23rd. I feel so stressed because I don't feel movement and I haven't seen the LO yet to make sure everything's ok. I heard the heartbeat at my 11 week appointment and will go for my 16 week appointment on Dec. 12th. Everything just seems so far away.

Re: Ultrasound

  • I had my 16 week appointment this past Tuesday, and my 20 week u/s is December 23.

Before this most recent appointment, was working myself up with thinking I hadn't felt the baby move yet, and what if the heartbeat stopped, or whatever... but the heartbeat was strong and beautiful! It's almost enough to make me want to buy a dopplar, but then I'd freak myself out if I couldn't find the heartbeat for whatever reason... I just need to calm down and relax, as stress is bad for the baby (yes, I'm thinking of the June 14 wine discussion... although to some extent it is true.)

I can hardly wait for that u/s, though, even though I had one at 10 weeks... Dec 23 is 3 weeks from Monday, can you believe it!?

  • That my birthday! And that's my next doctors appointment too... But they didn't say anything about an ultrasound

    It's a BOY

  • That's odd you haven't had an ultrasound yet.. Did you opt out of the 11-13 week scan? Because that's when most people have their first U/S

  • I had my first ultrasound at 9 wks, then again at 13 weeks. But then again I wanted all the extra tests, etc. so I guess I get more. I go again in 2 weeks for my half way point u/s and to find out sex- can't wait!! I would be so anxious if I couldn't see my baby on an u/s yet- eeek!!
  • My friend who is due on May 30th has not even seen a doctor yet! She lives in St. Lucia right now and she said that going to the doctor there is about the same as going to a vet. :) She is coming to the States for the Holidays and has her first appointment with a doctor then. At her first appointment she will see the baby for the first time, hear the heartbeat for the first time and find out the gender!
She is jealous that by the time she has her first appointment, I will have had 5 appointments and 4 ultrasounds. Haha!

    Nope

  • Since we heard the heartbeat at 11 weeks 3 days with the Doppler we didn't need to have the NT scan, doctor recommendations. Its just very stressful not knowing what's going on in there.

  • P.S OP That U/S pic in my sig was from an elective U/S. I paid $45 for 2d and 3d scan not done by my OB. Other than that I have only heart the hb on the doppler

This doesn't make sense. The NT scan's purpose is not to hear the heartbeat, so the fact that you heard the hb with the Doppler means nothing.

    P.S. No one cares.

  • A lot of the time it has to do with your insurance. With DS I had insurance through one company and only got two ultrasounds the entire pregnancy. My first was at 17 weeks I think, and the second was somewhere around 25. I have since changed companies, and still using the same doctor I have had 4 regularly scheduled ultrasounds (excluding two extras when they thought I had miscarried.)
