rolling over at night

My LO just started rolling back to belly which im super excited about but last night I had to flip her over 3 times cuz she gets stuck on her belly and gets frustrated that she cant roll back over to her back yet. If babies arent supposed to sleep on their bellies and I cant put anything in her crib to help her not roll over, how am I supposed to prevent her from ending up on her belly? Im a FTM not sure what to do!

  • I did this with my first all the time. He was about 6 months when he started sleeping in his crib though. The ped told me if they can roll they are fine to be on their belly. I still went in and put him on his back when I saw from the monitor that he was on his belly. Does LO seem comfortable on the belly?
  • no she doesnt like being on her belly at all..im going to concentrate on making sure she gets enough tummy time during the day so she can hopefully figure out how to roll belly to back soon!

  • I went through this exact same thing! I bought Merlin's sleepsuit which works perfectly. My lo can roll over back to belly but can't do it with the sleepsuit on.

If your LO is ok on their back than I wouldn't worry too much about it. My LO refused to sleep on her back so she has always been a tummy sleeper. Recommendations are great, but you have to do what works for you.

Eta: whoops! Had this typed but posted after your response above... Hope tummy time goes well!

  • I know you're not supposed to put anything in the crib, but we put a rolled up blanket on either side of him to keep him steady. You can also use a gadget that we have and don't like... It's two triangles of mesh that hold him in place. It's breathable, so generally safe. We just didn't like it better than a rolled blanket and that is easier and quieter.

  • Agree with @carrotcake09. You kind of just have to deal until she figures out, which she will in her own time. And then you get to deal with again when she's trying to learn to sit, crawl, pull up, walk... ;)
