Anyone else NOT want to know how dilated and effaced you are? I'm due Dec 26. My doctors don't check until 38 weeks but I might tell them that I don't want to know. My cousin was told 2cm, 80%, and that she was 2 weeks ahead... Turns out she was just having a large baby and stopped working 2 weeks early. She was tricked lol
I'm due the same day as you and I probably would have declined any cervical checks but at my appt 2 days ago my OB had to do a check to make sure baby was still head down because she wasn't quite sure when she just felt my belly. I was not dilated which is pretty much what I expected.
I declined until today-39 weeks. I too was pretty far along dilated with my 2nd and didn't have him until 40 weeks so it didn't seem worth the added uncomfortableness. Idid get checked today though because during rush hour our commute to the hospital can be a nightmare and I wanted to be prepared if I was further along (im not haha)
I want to know just to see if I'm going to be a candidate for induction right after my due date. Otherwise I am keeping the mindset that dilation does not mean baby is coming ASAP.
@krizaten I saw this from a post a few days ago; freaked me out bc my butt totally has one...all the way up. But I'm not dilated, and according to it, I should be completely dilated. so maybe certain women just have a purple line in general?
Don't know, not going there. I 've had too many rumblings the past few days. Doc offered the other day, and I declined. Why start something when I don't even know who's going to finish it? C/s is scheduled, and I like the dr, rather than messing around down there and having an unfamiliar on call dr have to do an emergency. Nothing scientific, just ignorance being bliss and all that.

Same for me!! I have a line that goes about an inch above the crack, ha! Thinking it may just be a random bruise or something, because surely I would know if I was fully dilated
Now I'm interested in the purple line lol... My Linea stops but then picks back up in my cleavage. So odd.
@caramarchi & momanddad+3: I just sent the article to my sister to ask if there was any truth to it. (She's a nurse midwife) she said she had seen it many times before, and didn't know it was studied. She attributed mine to the baby resting on my sacrum for many weeks.
I thought I wouldn't want to know, but curiosity has won out a few times. I declined at 37 and 39 weeks, but caved at 36 and 38. (And both times led to disappointment.)
The nurse told me I won't have a choice next week, though, which I thought was annoying.
I've declined at both my 37 and 38 week appointment. I might cave next week out of curiosity but I don't want to be disappointed if nothing is happening.
I got checked a couple weeks ago at 37 weeks. It doesn't bother me to know one way or another. Being 2cms dialated can last a month. I was dialated 2-3 cms when they checked and now it's almost 2 weeks later and I'm still pregnant, but didn't really expect much different.
I like knowing. I'm not dilated at all and feel like baby is taking her sweet time. At my 36wk appt, I was checked and not dilated at all. I want to be checked and find out I'm dilated. It'll give me some hope that LO is indeed planning an exit. Eventually.
I had four checks already and everytime I'm closed my due date is next wed. And they have all been painful. I'm glad I did it though I am getting more use to it and usually every time I would go I thought I would be dilated at least a little bit I think my mind would be racing if I was in the dark.
I like knowing. I know it doesn't really mean anything but in my crazy pregnant brain it means progress and that I'm getting closer.

TTM here and with both my other kids I never dilated before hand, now I'm 2 1/2 centimeters as of yesterday. My anxiety is through the roof thinking she is coming any time now. My due date is next wk thurs dec 5th.
It's a slippery slope -- I want to know, because I'm way too curious to decline the checks, but then I get frustrated when they tell me no progress past the 1 cm/50% effaced I've been since 36 weeks. It's only been 1 check since the first time, but really crossing my fingers for more effacement or another cm at my 38w appt on Tuesday. I know it means nothing and I stayed steady at 1 cm till I went into labor with DD at 40w 3d. Just praying I don't go over this time...so anxious to get this show on the road.

You ALWAYS have a choice! I can't believe she said that...it's your body!
