Stupid Question - Outdoor fun

I love spending time outdoors, and I really want Tumaini to spend a lot of time outside this winter.

However, I seem to run out of ideas of things to do with her outside. She struggles with walking in her suit and boots, and gets frustrated quick. She loves sledding, but only for a few minutes at a time. We've been to the park, but the play module is covered in snow and ice and not really usable. We go for walks everyday, but I would like her to be active also.

Anyone have suggestions for things to do, when they're too young to dig tunnels and it's too cold for snowmen? Anyone have an outdoor toy that their LO likes?

Sorry for the stupid question, I have no imagination whatsoever...

Re: Stupid Question - Outdoor fun

  • It's tough at this age.  I am trying to figure it out too.  I am looking forward to taking her snowshoeing, ice skating, and skiing, but she's too young right now.

I would say just keep taking her out.  She'll get better at walking in her snow suit and other outdoor activities.

Rather than a playground...do you have any trails in your area that are open in the winter. You could take her for a walk in the woods and teach her about the trees and birds.  My DD also LOVES the dog park.  She loves seeing all the doggies playing.

  • Thanks for the advice. I'll keep taking her outside, and hope she gets better at walking in her suit. She also gets scared whenever there's a bit of ice over the snow and that it sinks a bit. She's a scaredy cat.

However, she loves the snow, loves playing in it with her mittens and sending it flying. If she doesn't seem bored then I need to suck up the fact that I am and let her play.

I also ordered her the Bilibo for Christmas, and hoping it's as fun as the reviews say it is!

You snow bound ladies make me even happier to live in the south when you talk about toddlers and snow suits! I don't see how you live and function in that much snow! :)
I was just thinking that too.  I am freezing just thinking about having to spend time outside in that.
