Glyburide

So.....i got started on this medication before supper because my after dinner readings are high. All my other numbers are fine and my fasting glucose numbers are perfect. My question is....id i take this medication with supper do i run this risk of dropping my blood sugars too low?

Re: Glyburide

  • If that's when you're supposed to take it then that's when the doctor thinks it will benefit you most. Did they talk with you how this med works? It's not like insulin, it helps your pancreas produce insulin. It doesn't have an immediate effect like a rapid or short acting insulin does. It just helps your body do what it's supposed to be doing.

  • I've been on it for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed that it lowers my BG throughout the day. (I take it at night to control my fasting numbers.) Just be aware of the symptoms of low blood sugar and take action if they appear!

  • Is your dose 1.25 or more? It worked well and for many hours, for me. I take it before bed to lower fasting numbers which had been high. Dont worry about taking it, it really helps. However, if you feel low, or have low symptoms, call your dr. The first day, I was at 45 when I woke up, so he lowered my dose. It will be fine :)
