Toddler Handprint or other Ornaments?

Anyone have good ideas for an ornament to do with LO?  Last year I did the hand print on the glass ball ornament, by doing it while he was sleeping.  I've seen things like salt dough and other paint dipped ornaments but are our LOs ready to do a batch, I need about 8 for all of the grandmas and great aunties etc.

I'd like to do the craft with him but if it's too messy I could wait until he's asleep and do a handprint.    It doesn't have to be a handprint but I like the idea of making a different ornament each year.

  • I think someone on here might have posted this before. I think this is really cute. i might do one "snowman" representing Sophia, dear hubby, me, the dog and the bunnies for both sets of grandparents.

  • Last year I used salt dough and cut out Christmas trees with a cookie cutter and then used her finger prints as the ornaments on the tree. I painted the whole thing green and thing filled the fingerprints with whie glue and sparkles. They were really cute and I was able to take short breaks when she got frustrated. When I tried to do hand prints she just wanted to squish the dough but poking the dough with a pointer finger was fun :)
  • Last year I tried to do a hand print with DD but for some reason every time I pressed her hand to something she'd try to ball it up into a fist and it always smudged. I found an alternative by making an idea I saw for a card into an ornament. Instead of the whole hand, I did several thumb prints in different colors and then used a sharpie to draw a squiggly line connecting them to make the image into a string of Christmas lights. I did this on white christmas balls I bought really cheap at the dollar store; then below it on one side I wrote her name and the year, on the other I wrote "This little light of mine". It was a HUGE hit with the grandparents.

  • Thank you these all sound great! I tried testing hands prints in play doh last night and all he wanted to do was tear bits off, which was fun but it tells me that any hand print art will have to be done while he sleeps! I may be able to get him to do fingerprints though! Hopefully I can try this out this week!
