How far ahead are you measuring?

Hi! I am just wondering how far ahead many of you are measuring? I am 11 weeks and some days I worry that there is only one in there (going for a second ultrasound dec5 12 weeks, first one was at 6wks). But them yesterday I looked like I was 6 mos preggo and this morning I think I feel my uterus well below my belly button. (Not that I really know how to measure my uterus lol) I'm just so anxious for next week so see both babies doing well. Also curious how far ahead we start jumping in measurements!! Thanks!

  • I wasn't ever measured but I wasn't any bigger w the twins compared to my singleton until well late 2nd tri. Then I got huge fast. I had my big one at 37w and felt that big at like 31/32w w the twins (I only made it to 34w w them).

  • At my 11 week ultrasound my uterus was about 1.5" below my belly button. I don't remember being measured, just being told that.

  • When I was measured last Tuesday at 36w2d they measured me at 41. The nurse the week before said 43. ;) I'm delivering this Wednesday.

  • I don't measure more than a week or two ahead but my uterus is near my spine as well... Guess I should consider myself lucky as no stretch marks yet... 30 weeks 3 days
  • I measured on average 12-14 weeks ahead.  At delivery at 40w0d I measured 57 wks.

  • This might be a dumb question but my doctor has never mentioned anything specifically about measuring ahead. Is this is an important thing for me to know?
  • I just had my appointment today!  I am 19w4d measuring 27w :)

@iloveburritos, with twins woman usually measure 8-10 weeks ahead, but my doctor does a cervical and an US at every visit so it is just another way for her to keep track of another measurement. She doesn't have the advanced equipment to measure the amount of fluid each baby has (like my MFM).  Ask your OB about it, mine does it at every appointment (starting at my 16w).  I love knowing what I measure :)

  • @iloveburritos, my doctor has never mentioned measuring at all. i've read it's not really worth doing with twins because it's simply not an accurate indication of, well, anything at all.

BUT, it's kind of fun to know, and it's not hard to do yourself. Just pull out a tape measure and measure the number of centimeters from the top of your pubic bone to the top of your uterus (while laying on your back). This number will correspond with how many "weeks" you are measuring.

And, on that note, I will be 24 weeks in a few days and am measuring 32 weeks. :)

  • I'm 35w3d and measured myself last night (no doubt incorrectly) and I measured 43wks
People still say I look like I'm only carrying 1 baby, but my side definitely amped up in 3rd tri.

    Some pics for reference.

  • At my 28w appt today, I measured 40w. This is my 3rd pregnancy, so I've definitely grown faster.
  • I will be 36 weeks on Friday and measured 53 weeks at my appointment earlier today. At 27 weeks, I measured 40 weeks and at 32 weeks, I measured 48 weeks.
  • 22 weeks and measured 29 just 2 days ago. First pregnancy for me :)
  • @tootsscott we must be carrying the same way. No one believes I'm carrying twins either!

How do you know where the top of your uterus is?  And how do you take into account pre-existing chub?  I'm 22w and my doctor hasn't mentioned measuring me at all.  But I am having regular ultrasounds at the MFM, so I assume that is more accurate.

  • I've measured right on so far except today I was 15 weeks 6 day and measured 19-20 weeks!
  • At my 17w appointment (last week) I was measuring 24w. My doctor said there is a really wide range of what's considered "normal" with twins, and that she really only measures just for fun when someone's having multiples. :)
  • I already answered this question a couple weeks ago and I was measuring 7 weeks ahead. I had an OB appt yesterday and I'm 30 Weeks measuring 40 weeks! Now 10 weeks ahead! Wow! Big jump!

  • This picture was taken on Wednesday at 18w. Based on my appt last week, I should be measuring about 25w in it. (I really don't feel like I'm that big though.)
  • When I delivered at 37w4d I was measuring about 6 weeks ahead, although I felt and looked so much bigger!

  • Remeasured by OB at 21w exactly, still measuring 29w (same since 19w) before eating LOL.
  • They didn't do any fundal measurements on me after 9w... once I was with the MFM, all measurements were by ultrasound. So I have no clue.
