At my last appointment on 11/27 my OB was really shocked and worried that I hadn't scheduled my NT scan yet, considering it needs to be done in the next 3-4 weeks. Well being a FTM I had NO idea I had to do it earlier and no one had really stressed it to me during my first appointment 4 weeks ago. I called the MFM associated with my practice and they were completely booked for the timeframe I need to have it done but they were very helpful and gave me the numbers to a few area hospitals that might have openings available. After 2 days of calling 3 different MFM places over and over, I finally got squeezed in on Dec.19th at a hospital about an hour away. Not ideal, but it's my own fault for not booking it earlier (even though I had no idea I needed to!) and I am so thankful they got me in! Whew!! Just had to share my huge sigh of relief!
Re: Got my NT Scan scheduled thank goodness!
The NT scan (aka "Sequential Screening") is a genetic test that is a combination of an ultrasound and bloodwork. It tests for Down's syndrome in addition to some other genetic disorders. It can only be done during a specific stretch of time during the pregnancy - I want to say it's between 11 and 13 weeks? So the window you have to get it done is really small.
