May 2014 Moms

Scary day, ending in unexpected revelation!

So at 16 weeks and some change, I had some spotting today.  Seemed to come from nowhere- hadn't had sex for a few days or anything.  It wasn't much, but I called my drs. office just to play it safe.  The nurse said she'd recommend for me to go in this afternoon just to get everything checked out (and that as theyre closed for the next few days, I couldnt really wait).  So I talked to my boss, who let me go early, and called my husband, who got out early as well.  We got to the office and had an exam and an ultrasound, and Thank God, everything looks great.  Little one has a strong heartbeat and was just squirming around.

And we found out the sex a few weeks earlier than expected!  We are officially Team Blue :)

I'll be honest- I always pictured myself with a little girl (this is the first and we plan on two, so it could still happen).  I'm slightly nervous about being Team Blue.  So if you're a STM+ with a boy, do you mind sharing some reasons why being a mom to a boy is completely awesome?

(I really am happy, just need to adjust the vision!)

  • Glad everything turned out to be ok! Congrats on team blue :)

  • For one: Diapers are soooooo much easier to clean! (Not as many wrinkles/folds for poo to get stuck in...)

Also, if you have a little girl next, having a protective big bro is always a plus for a little girl! My brother was 'allowed' (in his own mind) to pick on me, but he'd stick up for me if anyone else tried to...

  • Baby boys rule! I always dreamed I'd have a baby girl...BUT I can't begin to even describe the love you will have your little man. There's an incredibly special bond between a boy and his mama. It is like nothing else. Before I was pregnant w #2, I said "I want all boys!" Of course, now I'm thinking a girl would be nice as well. I am 17w and will find out if we're team blue or pink on Christmas. Will I be "disappointed" if it's another boy? 1000000000% no. You'll see. It's amazing.

  • First of all congrats! I had always pictured myself with a girl as well but my first two were boys and I couldn't be happier. Boys are so fun, and they'll always have a special place in their heart for their mom. :) I had dreams when I was pregnant with both that I was having boys, and just last night I had a dream about talking to someone about my daughter. So we'll see!
  • Less high maintenance, not too much drama. He's so much fun and a total sweetheart.

Haha thanks ladies!  I knew I'd be happy either way, but it's nice to hear some reassurance for those little doubting voices in my head...

DH, btw, could not be more thrilled.  He promises he'll show me the ropes on all things boy, lol.

ETA:  We've decided to tell family at Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I just picked up a bunch of blue ornaments I'll surprise everyone with :)

  • I am so happy to be Team Blue again!  M is so laid back compared to my niece (who was drama the minute she came out...).  So sweet to their mommas...  He's just always been laid back and has such a happy, easygoing personality.

I know everyone says it depends on the baby and not so much the gender, but I have to disagree.  I've watched a lot of my friends kids grow up and the girls were always a lot higher maintenance than the boys.  It's amazing how young girls can learn to roll their eyes.
  • Scary, so glad you got some good news to ease your mind! That's actually exactly how I found out I'm team blue, unexpected ultrasound after some scary bleeding/cramping. I'm really excited for a boy, I like imagining him as a little DH with big brown eyes and a huge smile. :) Also there are soo many adorable baby boy outfits these days, fun wardrobes aren't just for girls anymore! Congrats!!

  • I'm glad everything is looking good! Congrats :)

  • So glad to hear everything was ok! I'm a mom of 4 boys so I think little boys are amazing! They only have eyes for their mommy

  • Boys are awesome. Sure they are high energy and love to wrestle play with balls and crash their trucks all around but they are so my fun. And at the end of the day when the want to snuggle it melts your heart. You are going to love having a son. Congrats!

  • Congrats!! Boys are awesome...as everyone else has said, they sure live their mommas. And just wait until they hit t-ball age. Nothing better than seeing that little boy out in the baseball field!
  • We need to stick to our budget and with a little boy it's been easier because I've found it harder to find "cute" clothes I like. Plus he's in 10th percentile for weight so most things don't fit.
However now that he's 2 I'm starting to see lots of toys that he's almost old enough for and I'm excited about playing with uhhh giving to him. I loved Legos growing up. He also likes to help me in the kitchen especially if he gets to use "tools".
  • Love love love my little man. And he loves his mama A LOT! Of course a little girl would be great this time, but now that I know how awesome little boys are, I'll be happy either way :)
  • LEGOS! What a pleasant surprise though! And very happy to hear everything is ok..

    It's a BOY

I was the same way, I didn't know what to expect with a boy. But they are great! They LOVE their mamas and they are easy to please with trucks, tractors, and dinosaurs. I didn't expect to be so "into" the boy stuff as I am now. I thought the girly stuff would be easier for me, but it's just as fun to build walls of blocks and run them over with monster trucks as it is to dress up and play with dolls (maybe more fun). I don't care if I ever get a girl now cause I kinda love having my boy :) Oh, and everyone thinks diaper changes are harder cause boys pee all over, but I think that's easier than trying to get all the poo out of all the places that girls have ;). But I don't have a girl to compare to so what do i know!
This is exactly how I feel. Verbatim.

  • I'm extremely nervous about possibly being team Pink! My little boy is awesome and such a mamas boy! I was also a tomboy and still prefer more masculine activities so having a boy was soo easy for me. He is the stereotypical little boy; loves swords, pirates, sports, Sophia the first.. Lol

  • I'm a FTM but I have 2 nephews and they're 2 of the best things in my life. The 3.5yo is a little angel and he's definitely a thinker. He's asking questions about everything at the moment and you can see him processing every answer. He's so much fun to play with too. The 5mo is the cutest little muffin in the world too. He has the biggest eyes and is always smiling. You'll have a great time with a boy.
