Bottle warmer?

DD is 5 weeks, EBF, and we just began introducing a bottle. Running the bottle under warm water seems to take too long and still doesn't get it very warm. I'm thinking about a bottle warmer. Do you all use one? Recommendations on which brand? I read that the Avent one is recommended for BM, but read the reviews and there were a lot of complaints about no timer.

  • I use the kiinde kozi and absolutely love it!!! It's expensive but completely worth it IMO.

If you want to try something in the mean time, when we warm a bottle (rare, now, but we used to do it for every botttle), we microwave a big mug of water (1 min for the mug/amt of water/microwave we use) and set the bottle in it for another minute or two, depending how full the bottle is.

  • Here's why I don't use a bottle warmer :  I find it quick enough for me to just put the bottle in a cup of hot water for a few minutes. Take it out and swirl the milk around a few times during that time. I bring the bottle to about room temp, that's all it really needs to be. It doesn't come out of the boob much warner. When we go out to restaurants or other people's homes where I don't find it convenient to BF, that's all we need then, a cup of hot water and he's totally used to that temperature and I'm loving the convenience.  Sometimes I bring it out of freezer and defrost it in hot water before we leave the house and then I just leave it in my bag without a being in a cooler bag and give it to him straight up as long as it's been out of the fridge for less than 4 hours.

This is why was recommended to me by a few of my other mama friends who like to travel light. Same reason why I don't waste time with a wipes warmer.  My DS has never had an issue taking the bottle this way. Why? He's used to it!  I personally think bottle warmers are a waste of money!  (that said, I have one for the car for our long road trips when I don't want to stop for a cup of hot water and milk's coming directly from the cooler)

I use the avent one and I find it works just fine, we set a timer in the kitchen and while not as convenient as having a timer on the warmer it's NBD. it heats evenly.
  • We also warmed a cup of water and sat the bottle of BM in the cup to warm it up.

  • I also never used one with DD. We just warmed the bottles or bags of milk in hot water. She never complained!

This! I love the whole Kiinde system, it's awesome.

  • Yup, we do hot water in a bowl for a few minutes. It's only body temp when they nurse, so it doesn't have to be that warm...

How long does it take to warm a frozen bag of Breastmilk?
