Dates & Acupunture:/

So my doula and birth class recommended to begin eating dates daily and try Acupunture to naturally begin labor but also help reduce hours in labor. I'm 38 weeks and per my obgyn I have a 8-9 lbs baby already:/ lol so I'm grateful he's healthy but I'd love to have a natural birth, so trying all I can do on my part to get this party started:) anyone else beginning home remedies for labor (of course at full term)?

  • Your body is very unlikely to go into labor unless it's ready. You can poke yourself like a pincushion, eat dates til they come out of your ears, eat spicy foods until you're literally breathing fire and walk a marathon. If your body and baby are not ready it could be for nothing. Oh ya, and those estimates for weight can be 1-2lbs off.

  • Acupuncture doesn't induce. The idea is that it preps your body, removes any negative tension that may prevent your body from going into labour. My first appointment caused stronger and more frequent BH contractions, and after my other appointment I started losing big portions of my MP. So for me it's helped start the process. I started at 38 weeks.

I opted out of the cervix checks, because I didn't want to focus too much on the numbers or get upset for little to no progress. However if I make it to my 40 week, then I will cave and request getting my membranes sweeped.

  • At 38/39 weeks it's normal to begin losing your MP. Just saying. It may have had nothing to do with the acupuncture. Maybe it did. It's anyone's guess.

Out of all my pregnancies, I've never had any progress with my cervix or any signs of early labor (no BH and never lost my MP) even after being 11 days over due, and then my missed miscarriage my cervix was still sealed up tight.

So with my personal past experience, I will continue to think that it has helped. Even if it isn't, I'm at least getting away from the kids for a little bit and enjoying some relaxing me time (which could also be the reason I've had some progress).

  • Here here for some mom alone time! I'm on my 3rd and I don't think I've gotten any semblence of alone time. Good luck!

It really does a world of good, just getting away for a little bit. I expect to have a hard time getting out once our #3 arrives, so I've been trying to "live it up" pregnant style. I hope you get some solo time in, and thanks!
