Who just knew?

How many of you ladies 'just knew' you where having twins? I'm 11.5 weeks, have my first scan in 2 days. And I just can't shake this feeling that there is 2. (I am also a twin myself) I read a bit on google where women say they where not shocked at all when the doctor told them there was 2 or more.

Re: Who just knew?

  • I was floored and a freaking mess as soon as we saw #2, so needless to say, I had no idea, no intuition and did not for the life of me expect to see a second baby. (and I have 4 sets of twins on my mom's side and my cousin was pregnant with twins at the time, never ever ever occurred to me that this would happen).

ha ha yes same here - I cried and panicked! AND we were trying! I just felt so prepared for 1, then totally NOT prepared at all for 2!

  • I remember saying to my husband the day we got our BFP 5 days before my period that maybe it's twins.
Everybody we knew told us we would have twins because my husband and I both have a fraternal twin, but on the day of our first u/s I said to him, 'do you think it could be twins?' And both of us agreed that no, it probably wouldn't be.

When the tech said 'its not one baby, it's 2!' We high fived each other, laughed and said 'of course it's 2 babies!'

  • I knew! I told my husband I was pregnant and it was definetly more than one. He didn't believe me so I threw a fit at the hotel we were at and at that point I would have been about 3 1/2 weeks. At 5 weeks 5 days we had our U/S and def 2! ..... Then I told him they were boys again he didn't believe me and sure enough I was right! Needless to say after doing that with both pregnancies he now believes me ;)

  • I kept having thoughts of twins and also thoughts that I would "accidentally" have a third baby even though I only ever wanted 1-2. I even had this running joke with my BFF about being pregnant with twins. I have ZERO twins in my family and NEVER thought these thoughts would amount to anything. I was in complete shock in the exam room... Shaking, crying...cried for a couple days. They are mo/di so totally spontaneous and unexpected. But I did just have that feeling... Plus I was ravenous from the very beginning.
  • Oh, and I even said to my mom right before I went to my first ultrasound, "I will let you know if there is one or more babies in there." She laughed and said, "let's hope there's just one." That was a funny phone call afterward . :)
  • I knew. Granted we did IVF and transferred two embryos and had a high first beta, but I have felt for years before we even knew we needed IVF that twins were in our future. I can't explain it, but it's just something that I felt and had multiple dreams about.

However, I was also convinced that we had a boy and a girl, but I was very wrong about that. ;)

  • We did IVF and transferred 3 embryos. I was terrified to get excited that I might even be pregnant. My husband knew we were pregnant and kept joking that there were 2. He was right!
  • I wouldn't say I knew, but I definitely suspected. I was on fertility meds and knew that I had two follicles ready to go and we have a few sets of twins in my family. I kept telling my husband that there could be two and he didn't take that very seriously haha. I also couldn't shake the feeling that baby A was a girl an baby B was a boy and I was right about that too.

  • I totally felt the egg split and just knew I was having Twinkies! Ummm no actually aside from having to stuff my face every 2 seconds in the first trimester, gaining 10 lbs and not fitting my pants by 9 weeks I was a little suspect. But never ever would I say I "knew". Twins were a something that happened to someone else, not me!
  • I joked about it with my husband, but I was also on a clomid challenge that cycle so the odds of it was much higher so not unfounded. I did have a dream about a little girl and boy visiting me and thought they were my twins (after I knew I was pg with twins) but am weird and think they are my two little lost babies saying goodbye. And weird in that I am not at all religious or whatever.

But it is a common question here and I don't really recall someone randomly thinking it might be twins back to actually come back here with multiples. Mostly hope for a super boring pregnancy, that would make you a lucky woman indeed, regardless of how many babies you deliver.

Yes well I have had 2 very difficult pregnancies (one which even resulted in me being in an induced coma for a week) so we weren't even sure we wanted to try for a 3rd. We got pregnant as soon as we started trying again, and for some reason instead of focusing on it just being a boring nice pregnancy I can't shake this feeling of twins. =| we shall know on Thursday!!
  • Can't say *I* knew, but my 3yo DD did. Before I even decided that I wanted a #3, she said "Mommy, you have twins in your tummy". To which I replied I wasn't pregnant. A few months later I decided I was ready and she kept saying I had twins in my tummy, to which I brushed off as I kept having negative pregnancy tests, wasn't sick at all (VERY sick with both my girls), etc. When I clearly saw 2 sacs and 2 babies immediately on the screen at my first u/s I burst into tears. She was apparently trying to prepare me for what was to come haha

All of this. I've always felt like I was going to have twins (a b/g specifically - we'll see about that part lol). Putting 2 blasts in though I had a day or so where I was convinced only 1 stuck, but the day of the u/s I just knew that they both did. When he put the wand in and we immediately saw two sacs I was like, huh yup there they are!

  • Nope....was totally shocked.

  • My family and I have always joked around that I'd have twins. But for some reason since this was my 3rd pregnancy and my symptoms weren't as bad as with my singleton DS then I didn't think anything different. Except the fact that I kept dreaming I was going to have twins and they were girls...but still thought that was pretty normal (I always get weird dreams when I'm pregnant). So I was still in complete shock when we went in to find out the gender of our baby that there's 2 babies!!! I cried hysterically and couldn't sleep for days! But we're so excited now and can't wait for our little girls to join our family!

  • @incrediblelife, what a story! That seriously gave me chills! I think small children have an intuition that adults could never understand :)

Because I assumed we were having one baby up until the 20 week anatomy scan, I'll also say I had no "feeling". OP, if you are a fraternal twin, you would have a slightly greater chance of having twins. I'm excited for your scan, and hope all goes well. Keep us updated!

  • I said it to my mom and DH that I thought it could be twins because I was SO crampy and symptomatic.  And to my DH I made him have a conversation with me about it (like what we would do), but would end it with "well it most likely isn't."  But I was still floored/in disbelief when the doctor confirmed it.  First one in the family!

I'm with these ladies. I broke down into tears when we discovered 2! I was barely wrapping my head around 1 child.
  • I still can't wrap my head around that I have twins! Biggest shock of my life. And all the signs were there. Instant Bfp, "all day" sickness, exhaustion and hunger. Things that never happened with my previous pregnancies.

Same here, I had no idea and had never even considered the possibility of it being twins.

  • When we got married, way before I was pregnant, I picked out baby names including possible combinations for all twin pairs! My mom thought I was looney!  Then I got pregnant and when I heard the heartbeat--only one-- for the first time (at 13 weeks), I thought to myself, I guess it's not twins after all.  Two days later I went in for the ultrasound and got the news there were two!

That's very sweet ;) I find out tomorrow! Thankyou!!
  • I considered twins as a possibility, but honestly hoped for a singleton. I was incredibly sick early on, had high betas, and a family history of twins. I know none of these necessarily indicates twins, but for me I guess they were.

I felt like I "knew". I "knew" since I was like, five years old... and then, I "knew" it was twins every time I became pregnant. This last go around was the first and only time that what I "knew" was actually accurate. I was pretty sure each of my singleton girls would be twins, too, but I was delusional ;)

  • No clue. I didn't have my first scan till I was 10 weeks. I wasn't fitting in my pants at 6 weeks pregnant but I just thought it was bloat since I bloat a lot with AF too. At my scan, the tech took forever. I thought the worst, my baby had stopped growing/there was nothing in there. When she showed me baby #1 I was relieved. Then she showed me baby #2. We were speechless. I never in my life expected twins. I thought I'd get twins in our 2nd pregnancy because we only wanted 2. Now we are thinking about #3.. they are ID, if they were Frat, we wouldn't even be thinking about #3

  • I knew because I was buying maternity clothes at 6 weeks!! ;)
  • Everyone always made jokes that I would have the twins even though I didn't know I had so many sets on my side of the family. But I feel like I kind of knew. I just had a feeling! I found out at 9 weeks so I wasn't having too many symptoms yet but I just kinda felt like I had two! I was shocked when she said there was two in there but I cried tears of joy because I've always wanted twins! Definitely hard work(I'm 7 days pp) but so worth it for two babies! Good luck at your scan in 2 days!

  • We did IVF and implanted 2 high quality blasts, so knew there was a good chance. I definitely 'felt' different than I had with my singleton pg and was not surprised when the 8 week u/s showed twins. My DH, on the other hand, was totally shocked!

  • We had no idea, but once we were told at our 11w u/s it seemed so obvious.  It was almost like we knew this one was different (which I attributed to the babies surviving past 8w), but hadn't quite figured out what that was until we saw those two little ones flipping around.

We both have twins in the family, so even though ours are identical - which is oddly common in my mom's family - it really isn't something that was a huge shock.

I just remember that I could NOT stop giggling!  For hours and pretty much whenever we'd talk about it the first few weeks.
  • No, and was in complete shock when I found out. DD, on the other hand wanted twins and had been praying for a baby brother and a baby sister for a year. She wasn't settling for anything else. When we told her it was twins and then later it was a boy and girl, she wasn't at all surprised.

  • I definitely had a feeling it could be twins. It was my 3rd pregnancy & something just felt different. I never said anything to anyone about my 'intuition'. Before we went to our scan my in laws were joking that there were two. And the ultra sound tech said "so we will see two in there?" Right before she started the scan. I was watching the screen & it was obvious there were two sacs & she goes "No, shit!" DH looked horrified! (I should add we are friends with the ultra sound tech, it wasn't just a random person talking like that to us)
