New baby and siblings

When does the novelty of a new baby wear off for the older siblings? Dd1 is 4 12 and ds is 3. The new baby is almost a month old and they are both still all over her and in her face all the time.
I have tripped over dd1 twice this morning trying to get things done around the house and she is my constant shadow if I have the baby with me. I'm afraid to leave the baby in a bouncy seat or swing to run and put a load of laundry in because they both get right in her face as soon as I leave the room. I guess it is better than them not liking her but I'm ready for them to chill out!
When ds was born dd1 was 18mo so she really didn't care.

Re: New baby and siblings

  • Oh my gosh I could have wrote this same post! My 5 year old DD and 3 year old DD are the same way. They are obsessed! He is 6 weeks old and while I'm glad they aren't jealous it's starting to drive me crazy!

Right now for example I just finished nursing DS and now I'm rocking him as he's drifting off and DD2 is trying to pat him and saying "oh he's so cute I just love baby brother" in a super high pitched voice and DD1 is asking to hold him!
My 2 girls, both born on a Friday the 13th, are exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 hours and 2 minutes apart! And Baby Boy joined us October 11, 2013! image

  • We live in the same house! :). I feel bad sending them downstairs to the playroom all the time, but they are driving me nuts!

  • Dd2 was asleep in the RnP in our room the other day, dd1 was playing on her leap pad and I took ds downstairs with me to switch laundry. I come back upstairs a few minutes later and dd1 is sitting in the rocking chair in the living room holding the sleeping baby. I asked her why on earth did she pick lo up and carry her into the living room. Her response "she was lonely sleeping in your room and cried for me to come pick her up". We had a long discussion about picking up/carrying baby.

  • My 21mo tries to climb into the swing with baby brother. I'm afraid we're gonna break it--it's borrowed!!

My 21 month old is obsessed with the swing too--it definitely can't handle the weight of them combined!!
  • DD is 6 1/2 weeks and DS's obsession with her is still going strong...

  • My 2.5yr old is so obsessed with my 7w old that she even shared her snotty nose with her :/ I cannot keep her off of/away from the baby!! She is also obsessed with the swing and I constantly have to tell her to GTFO of it. It now makes a lovely clicking noise when it swings on the higher levels - thanks DD1.

My friend has a 2.5yr old and a 7mo old and her older child is still beyond obsessed with her little sister. She is always taking her out if the swing and trying to pick her up - it's scary. Thankful DD1 knows better than to pick DD2 up.

  • I didn't even know dd1's voice could reach the octaves she uses when she speaks to the baby.
