December 2011 Moms

Papa phase

Alex is in a total Papa phase since about a week now. He wants his Papa for everything and will even take a book out of my hand and bring it to his Papa to read instead. I know this should break my heart a little bit, but I secretly enjoy the extra time for myself I am getting. ;-)
Anyone else's kid have that phase? How long did it last?

Re: Papa phase

  • DS is in this stage now, although it's almost more like he needs both of us at all times. He likes to hold BOTH our hands, wants BOTH of us to clap over the contents of his potty (haha), and wants BOTH of us to sit with him reading stories before bed.

He's definitely much more of a daddy's boy than he has ever been before in his life, but I think he's starting to sense that something is afoot with this new baby we keep mentioning.

This! However DS has sort of always been a daddy's boy. But I think now that he can see my huge stomach and baby things are reappearing he's freaking out a bit and attaching himself to me more.

  • Both my kiddos have gone through this phase but in the end they always come back to momma :)
For me it usually goes away when DH travels.  He travels probably 1-2 times a month and so when he has to go away they usually come back to my side.  :)

  • DS is a BIG time daddy's boy.  It does kinda pull at the heart strings for me. When DH is not around he does sometimes cry for his daddy, but for the most part is fine & loves his mommy time too.

In our house I have been the one who has been the one to disclipline & make him eat dinner, etc while DH is worried about them not being "buddies" so he doesn't do as much in that area & also tends to not speak up & back me up.  I'm trying to get DH to understand how this isn't right. He seems to undestand, but I'm still hoping to see action on his part more. Being 34w pregnant, it doesn't help that I cannot really be down on the floor playing with him these days like DH can.

He is at his happiest when he has us both home, though.  DH just had his last day of work for the season last week so will be home all the time now.

  • LO has been more attached to daddy lately than ever before, which does break my heart. Ds1 has ALWAYS been a daddy's boy and rarely comes to me before daddy if he has the option. But LO has always been my boy. The last couple of weekends I have spent a lot of time in the woods hunting (it's my biggest hobby and dh is happy to let me go and be in my happy place while he plays mr mom and I bring home some meat!) so I think so much time with daddy has made him gravitate toward him. Usually I'm always here and dh is gone a lot with work and training, so it's been a treat for them to have daddy home so much and to themselves. But this momma is totally missing the 'mommy's the best' mentality from my LO! :(

  • Who DS prefers can litterally change by the minute. But he almost always comes to me if he got hurt or wants me to kiss boo boos. Otherwise it's anyone's guess who he prefers at the moment.

  • Interesting to see all of our Littles' personalities! He always comes and gets me for his bath at night, it's too funny. For everything else his Papa is just fine, but for that he'll come, grab me by the hand and pull me into the bathroom.

  • DD is a total daddy's girl, and it's something I struggle with.  I love their relationship, but lately it makes me sad that she always goes to him first.  She does call for me in the night and mornings when she wakes up, but that's probably because my husband never gets up with her.  She frequently takes the book out of my hand and puts it in Daddy's hand, or we'll be playing and she'll go get Daddy to play with her instead.  I'm trying not to be bitter, but sometimes it's hard.

  • DD cries for the me when Daddy's there and vice versa, she really just wants both! I admit while it breaks my heart I do enjoy some free moments since I am with her most of the time.
