Poor dd2 was up all night itching the horrible excema she has on her neck, back and arm:( If I had known her dosage I would have given her Benadryl. The pedi said just give her Benadryl, cortisone cream, aquaphor. Any other tips? I feel terrible.
We used something called colloidal silver when DS had an outbreak of some sort on his face. It worked great. You can find it in natural stores. I've also been told that oatmeal baths are good for immediate relief.
I don't think that DS had serious excema, but the cortisone cream did work really well for us, too.
Is she drinking a lot of cows milk? Some times eczema is dairy related. Oatmeal baths may help some. Make sure her skin is completely dry after baths. Aveeno soap is also better then Johnsons. Hope she gets relief soon MrsG!
Oh, and my friend who dealt with excema with her son for months said that grapeseed oil (in his baths and directly applied to his skin) worked wonders.
I think so. We never tried this with DS because it didn't get bad enough to justify the mess I'm sure that would make, but that was recommended to me time and time again. Try Googling it and see what you find.
Poor thing, I hope she gets better soon, Did the pedi tell you the dosage for the Benadryl, when Wesley needed it about 2 months ago he was able to get 1/4 teaspoon, he weighed about 22 lbs two months ago, I also confirmed it with the pharmacist when I picked up a prescription.
Sorry to hear about the eczema DS has awful skin. He only gets a bath every other day, and after the bath he gets Aveeno eczema lotion all over and Aquaphor on the bad spots. We put Aquaphor on the bad spots every day until they go away. If they don't go away, we use cortisone or a prescription cream that he has, and it usually clears up in a day. We've never done the Benadryl.
My son is autoimmune with alopecia, so he was born with nasty eczema. His sister has it, too. We find that a bath every other day is all they can tolerate. Also, we've been using Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash and following it up with Aveeno Baby Eczema Cream. They also make a bath treatment. The other things I find they can tolerate are LUSH Butterball bath bombs and any of the LUSH bath melts. We used to use like Mr Bubbles or other natural, hypoallergenic bubble baths. But they would make problems. So I started trying the LUSH products and that with the Aveeno has really helped. We got them an awesome bath melt that has sparkles in it and they love it! Plus it smells soo good
I just had DD at the pedi yesterday for excema. She actually has strep that presented with an excema-looking rash and also flared up her excema so she is on an antibiotic for that, but we also got a lot of advice about excema.
Like many have said, warm oatmeal baths (aveeno sells packets and I personally havent had trouble cleaning it out of my bath since it dissolves into the water), moisturizing body wash (our pedi gave us a Eucerin gentle body wash), Aveeno excema lotion all over, and a humidifier in her room, are all supposed to help. We also slather Aquafor on the bad spots and resort to Rx Cortisone cream as a last resort. Ive never tried benedryl.
