We received Colton's stillbirth certificate in the mail today and it was such an affirming thing to see it on official paperwork from the state. It seems like such a given that you get a birth certificate for your child, that it really upset me when nothing was said at the hospital or funeral home or anything, but I am so pleased that we got something for him. It looks very similar to DS1's birth certificate, which I appreciate, and I will treasure it as I do his photos and clothes and everything else.

We don't have anything like that here, either...we received certificates of stillbirth for Devon, which broke my heart. I can't even look at it because it just makes me so sad. Oklahoma does have commemorative birth certificates for stillbirths, though, that are really pretty. I'm going to order one soon so I can hang it with his pictures.
I'm so glad you were able to get that!
We haven't applied for a birth certificate for Alice, but we did get a death certificate because we needed it for insurance purposes. Seeing her death certificate and cause of death "extreme prematurity" was so incredibly painful. A loss mom I know on another group ordered a birth certificate for her daughter and when she got it she said it was stamped in red across it "DECEASED". That is my hesitation in ordering one for Alice, I already have a death certificate and I don't want her birth certificate to be "ruined" by something like that. We're in Oregon and this other loss mom was in Illinois I believe so I don't even know if Oregon would do that.
