Freaking out!! Need advice.

I am 99% sure that I have strep throat and I'm freaking out because I have been kissing LO all day, like I usually do. Well I just took at flashlight to my throat because it just started hurting tonight, so I thought I would check and it looks like strep. I will be headed to the doctors bright and early tomorrow morning.

I am crying because I don't want LO to get it. Are there any btdt moms who have experienced this? I read some stuff on google that says it's unlikely but I'd like to get more input from you ladies.

Sorry if it's all jumbled. I'm freaking out right now. :((

Re: Freaking out!! Need advice.

  • Are you EBF? If so, your body is already making antibodies for this illness and will pass them along to LO. Maybe LO won't catch it. I was pretty sick (fever of 101 for three days, crappy for two weeks) when LO was about 2 months old and LO didn't get it. I EBF.

If you are worried you can always call the pedi in the morning, but JMO I wouldn't want to give antibiotics/medicine until/if LO gets sick.

Hopefully your LO won't get it!

  • Thanks for the input! Yes I EBF so I am hoping that she doesn't get it. We go to the same doctors office so I am going to get her peds opinion on it too. And possibly get her tested just to ease my nerves. Ugh. Hate getting sick!

Hopefully your LO won't get sick at all :-)

We have had our share of colds this fall (both DH and I have been sick - DH more than once) and LO has been fine. I really attribute it to EBF.

If you don't read Kelly Mom, it's great.

Here is an article on BF when Baby is sick (very beneficial for LO):

Thank you for the articles!! Those really eased my nerves. :) just praying LO doesn't get it so she doesn't have to be put on antibiotics.

  • Relax! Being sick is hard enough without freaking yourself out. Take a deep breath! I hope that all is fine, but you have to relax either way. LO needs you calm and collected.

FX nothing is wrong... It might not be strep at all!
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • Since you EBF there's a good chance LO won't catch it, if you even do have it! The important thing is to take care if yourself! My mom always tells me the baby can sense when you're upset or stressed and will react to those feelings so relax, take care of you and get better..
  • Infants and toddlers don't get strep. No worries.
  • Thanks everyone. I know I need to just relax and calm the F down. I'm already a huge worry wart/anxiety mess as it is. Thanks again for all the advice, I will update once I see the dr!

Not true my older daughter just got it at 23 months. That being said my older toddler had it and kissed her sister shared toys and both BF and LO did not get it. She got a minor cold, you getting it makes it even less likely since you're making antibodies for it.
My toddler has had it as well.

OP, I agree with everyone else... chances are your LO is going to be fine.

  • Update:

Well I feel like an idiot for stressing so much! LO looks great and no signs of strep and my strep swab came back negative so the dr just thinks it's a cold but wrote me a prescription anyways if I'm not better in 3-4 days.
