Trouble TTC

Morphology Issue

Ok gals,

DH's SA results came back. Count was 120 mil, speed was 75%- all this is a plus they said. Problem with morphology though. I was wondering if multi vitamins are key like they said. Has anyone had this issue too? Is IUI our best bet?

Re: Morphology Issue

  • What was the morph percentage. My RE didn't advise us to spend the money on IUI because we have a few different issues including low morphology. I ended up insisting to try IUI and we had a very bad post wash count, and needless to say it didn't work. I would talk to your RE for your best plan of action.

  • What was the percent? Our morph is 2 percent. And neither our RE or urologist were concerned. Our main issue is 4 percent motility and we are still able to try IUIs.

  • She didn't tell me that. I will find out tomorrow.
  • DH's morph was generally normal and in his initial SA his mobility was low but in his post wash ones for our first IUI it improved substantially!!! Our RE had DH start taking his multi vitamin and CoQ10 --- we had some great outcomes from this that she then had him also start taking Cinnamon and Zinc as well.  We both have been taking CoQ10, Zinc, Cinnamon, and now she is going to have us start taking Vitamin E.  Hope that helps.

My phones being dumb, read below..
  • My husbands had 2 sa-both over 94% abnormal but his counts were so high (169mill) that his urologist said that it didn't matter that much. His urologist did an ultrasound for a varicocele vein, maybe if his numbers don't look goos-talk to your ob/re on trying this method. He explained It to us; that some men have larger veins in their boys, causing their swimmers to overheat and dis form (ie-2 heads 2tails) like my husband has. They fix this with surgery. But vitamins can't hurt.
  • I have heard that morph is the thing to be least concerned about especially if his other numbers are good which your husbands are. I would think you could definitely try IUI with those numbers. Like others have mentioned there are supplements that can help, but morph is supposed to be the most difficult to change. Good luck!

    September 2013 Repeat SA: Count= 1.7 million, Motility= 24%, Morphology= 2%
November 6th 1st Appointment with RE: diagnosed with severe MFI
Testing to try to determine a cause & possible treatment for MFI
CD 3 blood work for me. RE does not want to repeat my HSG/lap at this point,
but may want to before moving forward with any fertility treatments.
After seeing the uro, DH is currently taking lots of supplements and clomid to try to boost his count. We will have a repeat SA in February to see if it works.
    Follow up SA numbers are: Count= 4 million, Motility= 40%, Morphology= 1%
Uro wants us to have another follow up SA 5/9 to see if we see further improvement than we are back to the RE to make a game plan.

SA 5/9/2014 Count: 12 Million, Motility: 60%, and Morphology 2%. We will be doing iui #1 in late June

IUI #1 6/28 clomid + ovidrel, post wash count 3 million total sperm= BFN

    12/9 Transferred 1 4AA Blast, 6 frosties

    *****Everyone is welcome******

  • Just spoke with nurse, 2 %.. I feel a bit better with all of your positive feedback. Hopefully this isn't an issue getting PG and it's only me!
  • Don't let it get you down. My DH has a morph of 0%. We have insisted on IUI. While it worked on the first shot, it ended in an ectopic. Morph issues are not the end all that many doctors seem to think.
  • MY DH has 1% morph, and our RE put him on supplements to help the issue (I can't remember all of them, but I know COQ10 and L-Carnitine were some of the biggies).

We're going ahead with at least one IUI cycle, but we'll switch to IVF pretty quickly if IUI doesn't work - given my age.
