I know we have a diverse group here so let's see our mix so we can all make sure we include all traditions!

Sorry if I forgot one.. Use the SS and tell us about it.

I celebrate all of them (minus kwanza)
christmas with my mom, in laws, and hubs

ramadan (which is not the celebration ...that would be EID and its based on the lunar calendar so its not always this time of year.... as a matter of fact this year Muharram coincides with Christmas and is a month of mourning) (names are clicky in case you want to be just slightly more educated) with my dad and his family

hanukkah with my uncle if and when we are near eachother around that time of year.

  • My mom is Jewish and my dad is Protestant. We grew up celebrating both and that's what we continue to do! We aren't super religious on either side but I love all the family traditions.

  • @mrscrcalli

Thanksgiving and the first day of Hannukah fall on the same day this year.  Won't happen for hundreds or thousands of years again (I read an article yesterday and can't remember - but it's a REALLY long time).

  • Wow! I can't believe we don't have any Jewish women on this board. I know some of you said you celebrate Hanukkah as well as others. But no one who only celebrates? That is surprising to me

  • I choose SS. I celebrate Yule. The pagan holiday. It's the celebration of the solstice (December 21st). However, with my husband and my soon-to-be-daughter we will open gifts on Christmas day with family.
  • I'm the token Jew I guess ;) Thanksgiving and the second night of Chanukah are on the same day this year-usually Chanukah is later in the winter!
  • I celebrate the long, traditional, many-dayed Christmas.

When I was a kid, my family was not religious, but I went to a Jewish Day School for a little while.  Because of that, I have a love of Hanukkah and I always read the story of Judah Maccabee.  <3
  • Christmas here! Which is usually lumped with my birthday on the 21st. My aunt told me I get lemon meringue pie at our Christmas Eve dinner! 2 points!

SS- I "celebrate" Christmas with all the pegan or stolen rituals (tree, wreaths, presents) but am not Christian. I use that time to reflect on my own spirituality and balancing it with the earth and those around me.

You sound like someone I want to hang out with and ask a million questions. So cool! I never meet anyone around here who isn't Catholic or an atheist, (nothing wrong with it, I was raised Catholic. Just lacks in diversity after a while when everyone you know and meet is the same) so it's neat to hear other perspectives and beliefs, mainly because I've always been interested in what you just described. Thanks for sharing!

ETA - When I say 'here' I mean my area/neighbourhood, not TB. :)
lol I was about to say, Dani - I'm agnostic, let's meet ;)
  • SS: My husband and I are atheists, we'll celebrate Christmas with family (his family is mostly a-religious, while mine is Roman Catholic) but to us it has nothing to do with religion. The pagan rituals are great, the celebration of light in the depth of winter, the renewing of the seasons and all that good stuff. Friendship and family, love and gratitude, etc etc.

    Also, food. Mmmmhhh.

  • I thought this was appropriate for those of you celebrating Thanksgivukkah:

enjoy :) This won't happen again for 70,000 years!

  • I was raised Jewish, through my mothers side, so we celebrate Hannukah and Christmas (more of the cultural celebration with my fathers side).  DH is Episcopalian so we still celebrate both... he stands with me and my family when we light the menorah and I love helping him and his family decorate the christmas tree :)

  • I celebrate Yule, but Christmas with my Catholic family.
