let's talk about swelling

anyone else feel like this?

image

i've gone up two ring sizes. my sneakers, which i don't normally untie/retie every morning, have had to be loosened... twice. my flats are getting uncomfortably tight, making my only shoe choice said sneakers, which i need DH to help me put on. i have to work a half day today and "see how it goes" because my ankles and feet got so swollen from yesterday's attempt at a 9 hour shift that one ankle had real pain when stepping on it, even though i didn't twist it or anything- it just got too swollen to do anything.
i went to the drugstore and checked my bp(normal) and talked to my doctor... apparently this is all just normal pregnancy swelling. i talked to my mom and apparently my whole family is known to swell up- thank god i'm not due in the summer, i'd just be a freaking puff pastry!

anyone have ideas of things i could do? anyone want to commiserate and complain about things (other than your belly and boobs) getting ridiculously large?

  • @mevaroo @ashleen223 the rings! i've only made it this long because i have an extensive collection of rings. my wedding rings got sized down to a 6 in march. i had to stop wearing them in late July- wore a 7 since then. in JULY. i was barely even freaking pregnant. this week, i had to move up to the 8. i don't have anything bigger than an 8. if i out-swell this, i give up.

  • Everyday!!! My knees and ankles are non existent after my shifts. I've ripped through 3 pairs of compression tights.

I can only wear (1) sneakers--with the laces not even in the first couple of holes, so there's enough room to tie-- and (2) my work DanceCo's.

I guess the benefit of living in warmer weather, or being pregnant during warmer months would be the flip flops!! My DH did tell me it was time to buy winter boots! Let's hope I can find some that fit over my swollen calves!!
  • I had horrible swelling with DD, I found that compression hose really helped. I also put my feet up periodically during the day and made DH give me foot rubs at night. Soaking feet in cool water helped, too. Increase water consumption. GL hon! Edema is the worst!!!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • Ugh, sorry you're having swelling issues.  I consider myself lucky and am having no issues thus far.  Drink lots of water; that is suppose to help.

  • I totally just bought a cheap immitation wedding ring a size up from my wedding ring, some days I've had to lotion my finger after putting it under ice water to get my ring off.

Ankles are definitely cankles most nights, ick. We're going to Hawaii December 7-12, I'm pretty sure I'll be a blimp down there. Also, white cheesy thighs are DEFINITELY not pretty. Poor DH is going to have to put up with a hot, swollen, waddling wife for a week. If it weren't lovely Hawaii, I would cancel just for the chance to stay in my giant warm clothes up here in Montana. SO thankful I'm having a winter baby, even though her due date falls right in the middle of my busiest time of year at work!

Rings and shoes both up 2.5 sizes, and my replacement ring is starting to look less than flattering. My face is a bit fatter for sure.
My knees and calves look huge every night pre bath, but by the next morning look normal ish again. Some nights my feet just look so puffy I don't want to see them.
I do have higher BP than normal but it's being monitored closely and seems under control.
Also my vagina sometimes feels just huge and swollen and puffy - yickkkk.

I had to LOL! As I was laying in the tub I once again attempted to shave, more just the bikini line and my who-ha is so swollen I cut my lip! Not the one on my face! I screamed so loud DH came running up stairs l, thought I fell, Im screaming how bad am I cut? How bad, he opens the curtian and was like ummmm not to bad ( it was a good inch!) and then proceeds to ask how hot the water was cuz I'm pretty swollen!!! He really has his moments ;) I'm no longer shaving btw... First slice my c-section scar, now my lip... Giving my lower half a break :) not to mention I under no circumstance should be wearing leggings the swelling I have going on puts the camel toe to shame :p
  • @mamahollywood27 oh ditto on the camel toe some days.
Sorry about your bo-bo! I've done that too. I quit even trying to groom. Oy!

I saw the post about sugaring and waxing, and it sounded like a great alternative.... Til I saw what I was working w down there... Ill spare the poor waxers the flashbacks and nightmares ;)
  • My rings haven't fit for a few months. :( My face looks massive. I just keep telling myself that water weight comes off really quickly. Not that you mentioned weight, but I have gained more than I wanted....so that thought process helps me.

Also, completely unrelated, my son was the stay puft man for Halloween.

  • Ah! Finally an advantage to 'living in sin' as certain in laws call it. No rings!

I saw this leg lotion stuff in the Body Shop that sounds refreshing. Supposed to stimulate circulation. I might give that a try.
