I went shopping for an ugly sweater tonight. When I was leaving the store, I heard something coming from an SUV. When I got closer, I seen a small child in the front seat screaming and pounding on the window. At first I thought there must have been a parent in the car, there was a toddler and a baby seat , so there had to be a parent somewhere. No. There were just three very young children locked in a car! The oldest (age 3, maybe 4) was curled up on the back seat, the second child (age 18 months to 2 years) was screaming hysterically in the drivers seat, and there was a baby (age would be better described in weeks than months) were just left there.
I ran in the store and asked them to page the parents, then called 911. The store manager came outside to see if the kids were okay while the staff paged the parents. It took 3 pages before a woman came walking out. She didn't even seem concerned when the manager approached her, but freaked when she realized I was on the phone. She kept yelling at me, asking who I was talking to, and screaming at her shrieking child. She then ran back into the store yelling for her husband to hurry up because the cops were coming. They came running out, jumped in the car, and sped off with the two older kids still in the front seat! No one was even buckled in.
The officer I was talking to said that they were dispatching a car to their residence but I can't get over how reckless and stupid these people were. I won't even leave my kids in the car to pay for gas, never mind to go shopping in a clothing store in bellow freezing weather. I have never heard anything so desperate and heart wrenching as that little boy screaming. I don't want to even think about it, but I am seriously freaked out that in all the commotion, I don't remember hearing the baby cry. How can a parent just leave their kids unattended and cold, and then risk their lives speeding off without having them buckled in? It's been three hours and I'm still shaking with anger.

Good for you for calling the cops. I feel so bad for those kids. Parents like those shouldn't have kids.

Life sure isn't fair. So many good people in this world struggle to have a baby and idiots like this reproduce no problem.
