Forgetting to take Prenatal

I have been TERRIBLE about taking my prenatal vitamins. Its not a lack of caring just simply forgetting many days of the week. I fear my baby wont be healthy or is lacking something from me. Any suggestions from those who have a good system and aren't forgetting?

Re: Forgetting to take Prenatal

  • Try getting one of the pill boxes that has the days of the week. It can help you keep track of if you're taken it or not (sometimes I can't remember if i have)

Set an alarm on your phone maybe?

  • I used an alarm with DD, now I just added it to my bed routine. I always get a glass of water for bed so I keep them in the cup cupboard and take them right before bed.

  • I take mine before bed. I have a habit anyway since that's when used to take my birth control. That has been the only way I can remember since the bottle is sitting in front of me while I brush my teeth.
  • Pill box. I feel like I'm 90 but I'm used to taking one multivitamin and now I'm up to 6 with the vitamins and b6/unisom. Only way I keep track is the pill box.

  • I used a phone alarm, and then eventually it became a habit.

  • I also take mine right before bed, right after I brush my teeth.  I always fill my water bottle up before going to bed so it reminds me to also take my pill.

  • I have to admit I was bad at remembering too, I only work on te weekends so I don't really have a morning/night routine. In the last month or so I've been better, I just left the bottles on our kitchen counter next to the rack with my sons sippy cups, when I get him a drink each day I see the bottles and I take the vitamins!
  • I set all my meds out the night before, divided into 3 doses. I put them on top of my dresser, which is at eye level, so I see them every time I walk in and out of the bedroom. It helps that I've been on daily meds for the past 29 years, so it's rare for me to forget.

It's not harmful to your baby if you miss a few doses, though, especially if you have a reasonably balanced diet. Some doctors believe we get enough vitamins from fortified foods, and they don't even require their patients to take PNVs.

  • I forget all the time. Like once a week. My doc said it's OK as long as I'm eating well.

I sucked at it with DD (baby #2) she was fine! Full term and 8lb 5oz ; ) I found that leaving them on the nightstand and taking when I get into bed has worked best for me. That's one if the few times a day I can focus on just myself long enough to remember to take it.

  • I was terrible at remembering. Probably went a couple weeks without taking anything. Then I got gummy PNV and calcium chews and I don't forget because I feel like it's a treat. It's like eating candy!
  • I typically make it a routine to take them in the morning with my breakfast! I set them on the dining table...so I'll see them when I sit down to eat! :)

  • Get gummies!!!
  • Put them on your nightstand and take them first thing in the morning with a sip of your water from the night before. Or put them next to your toothbrush. Either way, if you forget in the morning, you'll have another chance in the evening to be reminded. :)

I leave mine on my bedside table and take it before bed. If the box is there I seem to remember to take them.

  • Like pp, I keep a bottle near my night stand and, as part of my night-time routine (right after brushing my teeth), I'll take it. I also have some in the kitchen so that when I'm making breakfast I can remember to take it if I forgot the night before.

  • I forget all the time. It's not a big deal. As long as you're eating well then it's not the end of the world if you forget them from time to time. I can't take them at a routine time as pills make me gag now, so I can only take them when I feel like i'm not going to choke/throw up on them.

  • I forgot a couple times but luckily remembered later in the day. Since then I have them on my kitchen table right infront of where I eat so I can't forget since I'm munching on breakfast and staring them down :) I'd forget otherwise with one prenatal , one probiotic and 3 vit d!

  • i set a phone reminder and i rarely forget. when the alarm goes off, i take the vitamin. i set mine for 8pm, because it's before i'm going to bed and not too long after i've eaten dinner. i feel sick if i don't take them with food.

This is what I did (the pill box). Especially since I was on 4 pills early on in my pregnancy. I was too lazy to open every single bottle. Even if I forgot to take my meds my husband could go look in the day of the week and remind me.

If you knew better, you'd do better.
