EPer Check in!

I don't know how many of us are left, but I thought I'd do one last check in :-)

1.  How's it going?

2.  When will you be done?  Have you started weaning yourself?

3.  If you're done, when did you quit?  How did your body react?

4.  Any tips or thoughts to share?

    1.  How's it going?  It's not going....I'm done!!!

    2.  When will you be done?  Have you started weaning yourself?  I finished 2 days before my yoga retreat (11/2).  I weaned very slowly over the course of 2 months.

    3.  If you're done, how did your body react?  My body didn't react at all until a week later.  Then I got really engorged and sore for a couple of days.

    4.  Any tips or thoughts to share?  Nope.  I'm done and I'm not looking back :-)

  • Not an Ep'er but I'm still pumping at work twice a day...down from 3x's a day since two weeks ago when O started going 4 hours between bottles at DC. I'm going to continue to pump for at least a few more months (through flu season).

Is your LO completely off of BM or do you have a freezer stash your going through now?

Did you gradually decrease the time you pumped for one session at a time?

  • 1.  How's it going? Still going. I can't believe I've been going this long

    2.  When will you be done?  Have you started weaning yourself? Hopefully in a week. I still have a small stash in the freezer, that should get her through the couple days until we bring in the wcm.  I have been slowly weaning for a few weeks. Getting less milk, but still getting 15 oz a day (she is drinking between 15-20 right now).

    3.  If you're done, when did you quit?  How did your body react? I fear major soreness or clogged ducts. Any advice?

    4.  Any tips or thoughts to share? Just that I want to take a hammer to the pump and smash it to bits when I'm done.

  • 1.  How's it going?
I recently became an EPer two months ago when LO went on a permanent nursing strike.  But it's going OK.  I pump 3 times a day to get her 20-24 oz-- she drinks whatever I pump, if I have a low day I add a few oz of WCM.  The pumping is going fine.  But her transitioning to WCM and/or a cup is not going as smoothly.  So I may keep this up for a while...
    2.  When will you be done?  Have you started weaning yourself?
I'll be done once she starts taking WCM from a cup consistently.  If she'll take BM for a cup, I might keep pumping and freezing for a while so she can have half her milk/day be BM.  I went down from pumping 4 times a day to 3 about 2 weeks ago, and so far my supply has stayed good.  I'd LOVE to get down to pumping only twice a day, but I know my supply will take a hit, so as soon as she'll drop a bottle for a cup, I'm going down to twice a day...
    3.  If you're done, when did you quit?  How did your body react?

    4.  Any tips or thoughts to share? Not really.  Just glad there are a few of you out there going through this with me!  Oh, and those of you who have weaned off the pump, I'd love any strategies or tips!  I look forward to the day I'm no longer a slave to that thing...

No, he's still drinking BM.  I probably have 2-3 months left in my freezer, so we're making our way through that stash.

Yes, I decreased sessions/pumping time very gradually.  When he turned 9 months, I dropped to 3 sessions/day.  A month later, I went down to two.  At 10.5 months, I went down to one session.  For the last week of pumping, I decreased my pumping time by 5 mins each day, until I pumped about 3 ounces one morning.  Then I was done!

I didn't have clogged ducts, but I was VERY engorged and sore for 2 days about a week after I quit pumping altogether.  I was pretty miserable.  My midwife said to ignore them, don't touch them, don't let water touch them, and wear really tight sports bras day and night.  It wasn't fun, but it went away.

I REALLY wanted to smash my pump into a million teeny-tiny pieces.  But, I ended up actually selling it on Craigslist within a couple of days of listing it.  So at least it's out of my house!!

@sprite2012 damn, jealous of that stash! Lol. Good to know about decreasing the time. I've just cut back from 3 to 2 sessions a day so maybe in a few weeks I'll go to 1x/day.

Good luck!  I tried to cut down very slowly in hopes of not being engorged and uncomfortable.  I still was, but maybe not as much because I went slowly?  I guess I'll never know.  I'm just so happy to be done :-)
