Anyone out there diagnosed with PCOS after having perfect cycles? I'm waiting for the results from my diagnostic ultrasound and lab work (results will be given on Friday, 12/6), but I was wondering if that was possible. I had perfect cycles before being on bcp for 5 years, and now everything's screwed up.
I'm kicking myself for not asking questions during the ultrasound...she kept taking notes and measuring things in there....I could see the screen, but just saw a bunch of dark places.
Can PCOS just appear? The ultrasound tech and my obgyn were questioning
the heck out of me with PCOS questions: regular cycle? facial hair?
gaining weight? etc, etc.
Just wondering....

Re: PCOS Question
I had periods, til last cycle which was the first time I didn't have one. My periods weren't entirely regular, but they would happen every 30-37 days, with every third month being 50 days.
From talking to my doctor, my insulin levels are my problem. Not the testosterone that causes weird hair growth. As a result, I have had a lot of weight gain over the last 3 or so years. I never had perfect cycles, but mine did get worse after I went off birth control. And that is when the weight gain started.
Pcos can just start happening. It doesn't have to be something that you had since your first period.
Hope that helps some...like I said I am new in my diagnosis so I don't want to give you a bunch of wrong info. My doctor has been great and tells me to call him whenever. Just keep a list of questions going and I am sure your doctor can help!
was DX with PCOS in 2010. For me it started right after a chemical pregnancy. It started with long 40+ day cycles and eventually I became annovulatory and didn't have a period from May-October of 2011.
PCOS can be expressed through having cysts on your ovaries and/or hormone imbalance. Mine personally, is a hormone imbalance, but I never formed any cysts (or at least none of concern) on my ovaries.
I'll add on to some of the things that @angeltennis3 said. If your blood sugar is high, that will directly affect your androgen hormones, including testosterone. If you can lower your blood sugar, it will in turn lower your testosterone. If you do get a diagnosis of PCOS, I would recommend you ask your doctor to have a blood panel including:
Estrogen levels
FSH levels
LH levels
17-ketosteroids
Lipid levels
Pregnancy test (serum HCG)
Prolactin levels
This will help you and your doctor know which hormones are out of whack (if any at all) and what steps you may have to correct them.
Good luck, FX that everything comes back okay

I was diagnosed with PCOS this summer. I had no idea. My cycles after BCP were around 35-40 days (slightly long, but I do ovulate on my own). I never would have suspected PCOS, but my RE diagnosed me after running bloodwork.
You either have PCOS or you don't. But it is possible to have it, without being aware. As PP stated, it doesn't always mean you have cysts. It can present itself in other forms as well. My main factor is raised androgen levels.
My guess is because you were on BCP it suppressed most of your symptoms, so they are only coming to light now.
Good luck.
