Pregnancy Check-In

Hello pregnant peeps!

How are you doing/feeling? Any updates this week?

Please remind us all how far along you are and when your EDD is.

QOTW: In honor of @ATXmommas who welcomed her little bundle last week and @mwagner25 & @herbabymama who are ready to join her any day now (unless something exciting happened over the weekend -- can't wait for an update from you both!), what are your labor plans? Do you have a detailed plan? Have you not given it too much thought yet? Is your plan to not have a plan?

Re: Pregnancy Check-In

  • I am 12w6d today, and my EDD is 6/3/14.

I seem to have come down with a really gross chest cold over the weekend, and I feel pretty miserable. I have a whole bunch of congestion that has settled in my upper chest and what feels like the back of my throat, which is making it really difficult to sleep. Additionally, all this loveliness seems to be aggrevating my already heightened gag reflex, which is fun. I also have a super sore throat and a slight cough (not enough of one to actually clear anything out, just enough to make me gag everytime I give a little wimpy cough). So that is fun. HAHA

It is especially a bummer because I was actually starting to feel better from my 1st tri woes on Thursday and Friday (less nausea, a little more energy), but that only lasted a day or two and then this lovely sickness hit me. I am just hoping it gets better over the next day or two so that I am not miserable for Thanksgiving.

Alright, that's enough negativity from me! On a positive baby note, we had our NT scan on Thursday of last week and everything looked good. Baby was super active and they had a hard time getting measurements and getting a good u/s picture because of all the wiggling around. Heartbeat was 163 beats per minute. The doctor said that all the measurements came back in the normal range, and I should get a call this week with the results of the blood test. My next OB appointment is 12/23 and my anatomy scan is now scheduled for 1/15.

QOTW: Well, I have been thinking about labor here and there, but I am not 100% sure yet what I want our plan to look like. Obviously, we will do whatever we have to do in order to have a healthy baby, but in terms of figuring out what our first choice is for labor/delivery, that is still a work in progress. My wife says that she wants whatever I want. I am not sure how I feel about an epidural. As of this moment, I think I want to try labor without one, but be open to one if I feel like I need it. We will be delivering in a hospital, but the hospital does have birthing suites with whirlpool tubs in them if we decide to go that route. I am still thinking about it... interested to hear what everyone else has to say on this topic...

  • @KH826 feel better! That sounds pretty darn crappy.

    I am 18w4d, EDD April 24.

I have been feeling pretty well lately. I LOVE feeling my little passenger squirm around, and look forward to the day L can feel it as well. No major updates.

    QOTW:
I am planning a home birth with a midwife and her apprentice. We have also hired a doula. I am still currently in "shadow care" which means I am seeing both the midwife and an OB monthly, but that will likely only be until my 20 week anatomy scan. We plan to rent/ buy a birthing tub, and I look forward to that idea as I love taking a bath, especially when I'm not feeling well. I have always wanted as natural a birth as possible and a home birth seems like a great fit for us. I look forward to being in the comfort of my own home, with a great team of supportive women surrounding me. If all goes smoothly throughout the pregnancy that is our home birth plan.if some type of an issue arises during my pregnancy that prohibits a home birth, or may lead to complications I will transfer back to an OB, it is certainly not a home birth at any cost.

  • Good morning,

I'm 13w5d with twins, and my EDD is 5/28/13.

I got the full CVS results back and both babies are normal, now we're waiting on a microarray and a test for noonan syndrome for Baby A. Tomorrow we have an appointment at maternal fetal medicine later in the day to get another look at A and see if the fluid in the brain and neck has decreased at all. It was nice of them to squeeze us in before the holiday, so I'm really thankful for that!

My vomiting has gotten way worse the past 2 weeks, I vomit like 5 times a day now- but my OB doesn't seem concerned that I'm down 6 pounds. Here's hoping I'm not gonna be popping zofran 3 times a day everyday! :(

QOTW: I haven't given much thought to it. I always assumed it'd be a C-section due to my medical history- and now that I'm carrying twins it just seems all the more likely.

PS: Many, many congrats to @ATXmommas and I'm hoping for more baby news from @Mwagner25 and @herbabymama  :)

  • @YBnormal85 - I love that you refer to your baby as your "little passenger" - so stinking cute! Do you have an appointment yet for your anatomy scan? It must be soon, right? So exciting!

@KLeigh1 - Such a strong beta! Congrats again to you! Can't wait to hear your update after your 6 week ultrasound. I hope time flies by quickly for you between now and then.

@Pinkspark - I am sooooo glad to hear that the CVS results were normal. I hope that you have more positive news after your appointment tomorrow, and that you will feel reassured. I am thinking about your little baby A! And B too of course! I am also so sorry to hear about your increased vomitting - that is definitely no fun. These things are supposed to get better at the end of the 1st tri not worse! I know unfortunately that is just not always how it works for people though... I will be thinking of you!

    @KLeigh1 congrats!!

@Pinkspark so happy to hear about the great results! Hope you feel better soon :)

  • I'm 7w6d and EDD is July 10th.

I still feel mostly normal. No real sickness yet, I feel nauseas almost all the time, but not even close to cookie tossing thank goodness. We started taking weekly photos of the blump and I am going to make a movie out of them. It's going to be really fun and hopefully cute. We studied up on cloth diapers this weekend and decided what we will likely use. I feel like we have to much to do over the next 8 months. It's so overwhelming.

QOTD: We are planning on a homebirth with a midwife and a doula. I like to joke around that the doula is more for my wife than for me. We finally picked a midwife and are just waiting to hear back from her. She has a birth tub we can use, which is awesome. I feel pretty confident that the homebirth will work out, but if for some reason we have to go to the hospital we will go to the most baby friendly hospital here, which also happens to be the closest.

@Pinkspark what great news that the results came back good.

@KH826 I hope you feel better soon. Colds are the worst

@Kleigh1 Congrats, glad to have join us. Sorry that people are unsupportive. Is it other kids that are making the kids question things?

  • @redrockmama It seems like we have pretty similar birth plans :) I simply adore our doula, she is the sweetest thing and has so many connections so that has been extremely helpful. The midwife we are using was also her midwife for her HBAC a few years ago so they are well acquainted. I look forward to chatting with you about our home birth plans in the future!

Also, we plan to CD our baby too. We have some already but certainly not enough. I'm considering doing prefolds with covers when the baby first arrives, and I don't have many of those as of yet.

  • I am 36 weeks 3 days, EDD 12/20, and getting more and more ready to meet my little guy. My work threw me a baby shower last week and it was a lot of fun! It's nice that people I work with are so sweet. I also got a nasty head cold and felt like I got ran over by a truck. I rested the past few days per my OB and am starting to feel better. I think my bean settled into my pelvis last night. I woke up with lots of pressure in my entire pelvis and am having to use the bathroom like its the 1st trimester all over again lol.

I have packed my bag for the hospital and told my brother where it will be, in case something happens and I can't get it before going to the hospital. My plan is to have a hospital delivery and I'm all about the epidural. My doctor told me that even if she isn't on call when the time comes (lots of holidays coming), she will be helping me bring my son into the world and that helped me relax a lot. She's really awesome and I love that she's going to be called in and it won't be some random doctor. Oh, I got the infant seat installed in my car via a fellow Investigator at work whose wife had her baby two weeks ago. My pregnancy brain gave up on reading the instructions so he helped me :) I have a few more things to purchase before his arrival but if he came now I would be ready for the most part. I can't wait to meet him!!

  • Today I'm 7w1d (a blueberry!), EDD 7/13/14.

I'm doing pretty well, physically; a little anxious, emotionally. I'm hoping our ultrasound on Wednesday will ease the latter a little bit. We did a lot this weekend (meal planning, lots of shopping, hours of yard work, house cleaning, and hosting my step-mom's birthday dinner for 7 people), so I think I kind of wore myself out. I am glad this is a short week with no traveling for us, and I'm really looking forward to going to bed early tonight!

@KLeigh1, I get itchy skin too! I had it in my first pregnancy and I have it now too. It seems like a weird pregnancy symptom but you are not the only one! I find that using a collodial oatmeal body lotion seems to take care of it.

@pinkspark, so happy to hear CVS results were good!

QOTW: The answer to this question is kind of in flux right now. I went into TTC very confident that I wanted to use midwives; there is a midwife group nearby that has a birth center at a local hospital, and to me that was ideal: I would be cared for, labor and give birth with a midwife but would be in a hospital in the event that anything went wrong. I was hoping for as natural a birth as possible. I did see the midwife once during my last pregnancy, and after several discussions with my wife about the experience, we came to the conclusion that we would prefer to be seen by an OB this time around. Midwives tend to treat your pregnancy as healthy and not medicalize it as much, and although that originally seemed perfect to me, the truth is that at this point, after the amount of time it has taken me to conceive and the fact that I have had two losses, I don't see my pregnancy as healthy. I see it as tenuous and indefinite, and I want as much testing as possible that will convince me otherwise so I don't have an anxiety attack a week for the duration of the pregnancy. (I am also over 35 and some providers consider IVF babies higher risk for some reason). SO -- I'm not sure yet how this will change things for me. It means I will definitely deliver in a hospital, but I deliberately chose an OB associated with a hospital that is committed to reducing C-section rates and inductions (and has banned both for non-medical reasons). I'm holding off on researching the details until I actually meet the OB and start to feel like this might be a viable pregnancy. I do still lean natural with childbirth, but some of what I've read about epidurals lately has me reconsidering them. I'll know more about how I feel about this in 6 months, I hope.

  • KH826 I sure hope you get to feeling better! Being sick while pregnant is really hard!!

@YBnormal85 Glad you are doing well and I agree that feeling them move is amazing!!

@KLeigh1 I have itched during my whole pregnancy!! I use Palmers Belly Butter every day and put it on my belly like its a turkey getting ready for the oven!! It's funny, I've been told that if I scratch I'll get stretch marks lol. Old wives tale... I imagine my bean growing when the itching gets really bad as I think (after tons of research online which is of course 100% correct all the time!) it is due to him getting bigger and my skin stretching.

@Pinkspark So glad to hear about your positive results coming back and I hope for continued positive news for you!

@redrockmama That's really awesome that you are going to make a movie out of your blump pictures! Glad you are doing well (except for the nausea)!

@sarahtrtp Glad you are feeling well and that everything is going smoothly for you.

    @YBNormal85 & @redrockmama - we're planning a homebirth too - I'm excited to see so many people leaning in this direction :-)

@KLeigh1 - congrats on the great beta!! Looking forward to your future updates and welcome again :-)

@Pinkspark - I'm routing for Baby A, glad the test results have been good thus far- FX for more great news.

@sarahtrpt - hope better sleep is in your future.

@greysmom13 - you sound so ready!! I'm ready to meet your LO too - looking forward to your updates - and FX for a smooth birth (you sound very prepared :-) )

@ball.and.chain - hope your ultrasound on Wednesday gives you a peace of mind over the holidays and for weeks to come.  It's weird I get itchy skin too & @KLeigh1 - I never knew this was a pregnancy symptom.

16weeks 5 days today, due April 29th 2014. Feeling pretty good physically. Emotionally I feel topsyturvey - very depressed its weird. I tend to be a pollyannaish type of a person perpetually positive. (Wow lots of p's. hahaha).  Anyway I feel so down some days (like 2-3 times a week). I struggle to maintain perspective and not get overwhelmed or feel hopeless.  I'm guessing its hormonal but it is definitely odd.  I'm trying different things to stay focused and feel positive. Today I am trying to keep life simple and not blow problems I can't control out of proportion. Cook dinner, shop for Thanksgiving... Just one thing at a time.

I've been feeling baby move more and more, almost everyday at least once. It's really amazing and I feel so much more connected to this little being because of it.

QOTD: We had a wonderful home - water birth with Kaden, who was born 9lbs 5oz, I started having time able contractions around 8pm on the 12th of July and he was born at 11:30am-ish on the 13th.  The "worst" contractions were from 7am - 11:30.  Anyway - sorry I've been reading birth stories lately and it makes me want to recount mine ;-)

I loved our homebirth and would like to do the same this time around.  Our midwife is currently TTC with her partner, if they are not successful by Dec. then she will take us on as a client. If she is pregnant she will likely step down from active midwifery while pregnant.  Anyway she and her partner have become friends and we adore them and wish them much success TTC.  Right now I'm just waiting and will check-in in January.  I'm seeing an OB for the time being.

I've started slowly looking for other midwives in the event R is not available.  We didn't have a doula last time around - it was my brother & sister in law, EV and R (our midwife) at the birth (and her assistant who arrived after K was born - which was an oops. But perfect nonetheless our sister-in-law is a Physicians Assistant and works a Childrens' Hospital, she made a great last minute assistant.   I'm not sure if I'd want a doula - maybe.  I know a lot of the support fell on EV - for instance she held me up in the tub during contractions for hours.  (It was her own labor of love ;-)  I will definitely be getting a bucket bench or stool to put in the tub this time.

  • Hello all.... thanks so much for all the support.  We have had a long day full of tough decisions and I spent most of the day at the OB clinic.  I wanted to have a clear plan before I updated everyone on the board.

So I went in today for a cervical check I am 40w4d, we set today as an induction date thinking that as long as I was dilated I would go in tonight and they would start pitocin.  Well, I was not dilated today, and remain 70% effaced and soft.  They are concerned that I haven't progressed at all despite having contractions, so we did a NST in the office again today.  (we had one last week which he looked great at).  Today he was not having any accelerations on the NST, finally with apple juice and laying me on my left side we started to get some response from him.  Enough that he "passed" but it wasn't as good as his NST last week.  Unfortunately, because this is a holiday week we had really shitty choices.  Either we induce tonight, knowing that I will now require cervidil overnight tonight with pitocin in the morning (meaning my chance of having a c-section is 60-70% since my Bishop score is only 3) or wait a week and hope that he comes on his own.  But knowing that if my cervix continues to not cooperate then by waiting the extra week we have now put him at risk of having meconium and me at an even higher c-section risk due to the fact that he will be that much bigger.  Ideally if this wasn't a holiday week they would give me 3 days or so to see if he comes on his own but they will not schedule inductions on Thanksgiving or over the holiday weekend. We decided that at this point we know we have a healthy baby, whether he is born vaginally vs c-section.  And if we were to wait a week and have something happen to him we would always regret not making the decision to intervene when we knew he was healthy.  So after some tears and several hours of walking the mall (in a last ditch effort to start spontaneous labor) we have decided to go in for the induction tonight.  L is on board with the decision but isn't happy that my risk of c-section/major surgery/complications is higher.  I feel good about my decision at this point but I know that I am placing increased risk on me for him and I can understand why that is hard for her.

So.... we call tonight at 8 pm, and as long as they are not too full we will go in at 9 tonight to start the induction.  We expect it to be a long process (usually >24 hours) for cervidil and pitocin.  I appreciate any T&P you want to send our way.  I am still hoping on a vaginal delivery, but first and foremost want a healthy baby to bring home.  I will probably post some updates as the whole induction process can be long and boring at times.  Glad to see the new faces on the check in.

    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • @mwagner25 - thinking about you and L and your LO!! Wishing you the best - I can imagine it was a hard decision but I know it will be all worth it very soon :-)
  • @mwagner25 this sounds just exactly like us. I am 37w 2d with twins and we had originally planned to start cervadil next Tuesday night because I have had no contractions, am not dilated nor effaced. After our ultrasound yesterday we have one baby who is not gaining weight like he should and one baby who is ginormous (for a twin). After my OB consulted with the specialist who performed the ultrasound we have decided to schedule a c-section for next week instead of inducing. And for the same reasons as you. As parents, our first priority is always our children's safety so kudos to you for making a very hard and tough choice. You're going to do awesome and will have so many people thinking and praying for you. Best of luck!  :D
