"Experience" gifts for toddlers?

So, I would rather get DD a fun thing to DO, rather than a fun thing to HAVE.

For example, when I was probably ten, my mom took me to a play and a fancy tea room in "the big city" as a Christmas gift.  It was a really nice time together and I still remember it.  That's what I mean by an experience.

Any ideas for good "experience" gifts?

  • Do you have a zoo or children's museum nearby? You could get a membership. We go all the time and DD loves it. Or you could do classes at Gymboree or something similar.

  • Our Christmas gift ideas for grandparents included a zoo membership and a botanic gardens membership.
