New Here and seeking advice from charting experts

I'm consistently (as in for 5 cycles) ovulating 4 days after an positive OPK while my both my doctor and Dr. Google both seem to say ovulation should be 12-36 hours following. Any ideas if this could be a problem? I just assumed initially it was delayed ovulation due to stress (didn't feel stress but just everything I read seemed to say that could cause a delayed ovulation in a particular cycle).

i.e.
CD10 - negative or positive OPK (occasionally get two days of positives)
CD11 - positive OPK
CD 12 - negative OPK
CD13 - negative OPK
CD 14 - negative OPK
CD15 - negative OPK/ovulation
CD16 - temperature rise
Me: 32, DH: 33
DS #1: April 2010
DS #2: July 2015 (preemie born at 31 weeks) - our little miracle conceived through ART - unexplained secondary infertility/adenomyosis

Re: New Here and seeking advice from charting experts

  • I'm on mobile so I can't see your chart - is if it's not in your siggy (which is a pain in the butt to do) then include a link in your post.

But- I wonder if your are in indeed O'ing between cycle days 12-14 but your temp is slow to rise to reflect your O.

Google "slow rise bbt" or something. Without looking at anything that's my best guess :)

Hopefully one of the other ladies on here who is more skilled with charts can help you.

    Good Luck!

(And they very well may say "KC is wrong") but I feel like I read about slow rising in TCOYF.

I second what @KC1212 said.  A link to your chart would help.  It could be a slow rise or it could be delayed ovulation.  With delayed ovulation though, I wouldn't think you would have 3 negative OPKs leading into ovulation.  I would expect your OPK to stay positive, so that seems a little odd to me and makes me guess you might be more of a slow riser.  I often have slow rises in my charts as well and sometimes have to override my crosshairs from FF because they don't interpret the slow rise correctly.

  • My first thoughts from your post was also slow rise.  Adding a link to your chart would be helpful, but based on what you described, I totally agree with the other ladies.  I don't think it's a problem, though.

  • Weighing in here, this sometimes happens to me and I have to remind myself that OPKs just signal that your body is getting ready to O, it does not guarentee it, so BBT will confirm O.  On FF you can search 'slow bbt rise' and see what those charts look like.

I'd say ask your OB/RE but I know they have varying views on the validity of charting and temping. So, I'd say do both and then keep on humping it out until you confirm O with your BBT rise.

Hmmm I don't remember reading about slow rising BBT and hadn't heard of it. Thanks, will research! Wish I hadn't lent out my TCOYF!

I can't seem to share FF, when I try the share button, it shows a blank chart on the link. No clue what I'm doing wrong but I'll attached screen shots. FF doesn't show ovulation detected ever though doctor says from her testing, I am ovulating. If I remove OPK results in FF, it shows ovulation on CD15 but when I put them back in, it shows nothing again.

Initially I did think delayed ovulation for the first few cycles but now that it has gone on for 5 cycles, I think it's strange since it's every time. Previous to this, I was not using OPKs, just charting so perhaps has gone on longer.

  • Hmm. It looks like O is CD 15. I think as long as your O is confirmed - which it is- and it's not happening on CD 45 or some crap then you're good to go!

I wouldn't worry about the OPKs. I would HIO between days 13-16. Or EOD from 11-16 :)

  • I think it sounds like slow rising BBT. I quit charting because it made me insane.
