Anyone have success BFing after breast reduction surgery?

Hi Ladies,

I'm a FTM on the May14 BMB and someone suggested that I should ask this question over here.  I had a breast reduction surgery in 2008, which my doctor said went smoothly.  He told me at the time that I shouldn't have any issues BFing; however, I have talked to a few people who also had the surgery and learned that they struggled to BF or were not able to do so at all.  I know everyone is different, but I was just wondering if anyone here had success BFing after a reduction surgery?

    I had my reduction in 2001, 10+ years before DS was born. I successfully EBF'd (in fact, he's still nursing a few times a week, even now that I'm in my third tri with his younger brother).     Everyone is different and you won't know until you try. That said, I had my reduction in 2008 as well. Successfully BF my son for 14 months. He weaned himself when I was 15 weeks pregnant. Now, at 10 weeks, my daughter is also EBF. We hired a private LC with DS and I think that really made a huge difference. I do miss my smaller boobs, but oh well! Hopefully they'll shrink again some day!

    I had a reduction in 2005 and am able to BF my son who is now almost 6 months. I was very worried because I wasn't happy with my results but never had an issue with supply. Goodluck!

    Thanks for all of the encouraging feedback.  I know I have plenty of time to worry about this, but I definitely feel better knowing there are others in the same situation that have had success.  Thanks again!

    @MrsKTen‌ when are you due? I am also on the May14 board. I am due May 13th.

    I had assumed all would be well based on what I had heard and read until I went to the breastfeeding class at Kaiser and was told that I may have a 50/50 chance. It helps to know that there are people who have been successful after a reduction. I will also be checking out the link. Thanks for posting.
