nbr: engagement photos

figured you ladies would have some advice since many of you have done engagement photos.
we're doing ours in a month. i'm trying to decide if we should coordinate outfits, or if that looks too stiff/unnatural/whatever? we haven't decided on inside v. outside, so this only pertains to inside since i'm not about to drop $$$ on coordinating outerwear.

here's what i have if we did coordinate:

I wore a dark pink shirt with a jean skirt, and he wore a blue polo with jeans. So no, not really coordinated.

But the whole feel of our shoot was walking around the city and I wanted it to look natural. We ended up wearing our coats in a number of them (yay unpredictable Vancouver weather). But I love them.

ETA: Sorry no real advice. But I would try your best to do them outside, I always like those pics the best and fee like they look more natural. I think the clothes you have chosen would look great.

  • Which top would be yours? It is linked to a teal one which I don't think "goes" with the red/grey of your fiance and baby?

I like coordinating photos, definitely. I truly think they look better than random clothing, which can draw the eye where you don't want it to. Not matchy (like white top, jeans bottom) but something that "goes".

We did family photos yesterday and these were our clothing choices:

  • Oops, sorry, I would wear the 'red combo' sweater - the grey with red, white, and coral.
He'd wear the dark grey sweater

  • For engagement photos, I think just matching the style of your clothing is the only thing that should match (like casual or dressy). With him in jeans and a grey sweater and pop or red, I would wear anything but grey. Maybe grey as a little accent but then don't wear red too.

Our pictures were informal in a field and on a train. We both wore jeans. He wore a grey/yellow pearl snap shirt and I wore a simple white tee and red flats.

  • Ok, thanks guys. I should have just gone with my gut in the first place - I was worried the coordinating outfits would be a bit much. We're just not those people (though then again, we're not engagement photo people, either). I think we're going to try for outdoors anyway (if it's not gross and melty out), but if we go indoors I think we'll just try not to clash.

Though now I want that little sweater dress for DD...
