Pregnant after IF

Serve it Up Sunday -- Thanksgiving Style!

Hey ladies! Hope you're all well. I'm fighting a cold here :( It's not too bad but when you can't take anything and then can't sleep, it makes for a pretty grumpy lady.

Anyways, in honor of the upcoming holiday, I thought I'd theme this check-in, so...

1) What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish and do you still feel like it this year?

2) Are you making anything special for Thanksgiving? Family recipes? Special dishes? Etc?

3) Any other recipes for the week?

Re: Serve it Up Sunday -- Thanksgiving Style!

  • I love Thanksgiving and I look forward to the food each year, even more so this year! I love everything, but my favorite dish is something my MIL makes. It's a sweet potato casserole with cranberries and an oatmeal type topping with marshmallows. The cranberries pop because they're so hot and the sour juice is such a good combination with the sweetness of everything else. Yum! I asked her to make extra this year.

I'm going to try out a pumpkin cheesecake this year in addition to the usual pumpkin and apple pies. Here's the recipe: https://www.mybakingaddiction.com/pumpkin-cheesecake/

I will make my usual ham and corn chowder either on Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving with the left over ham bone. I can't wait. I'm so glad the CA weather is complying.

I'm also planning on trying french onion soup tonight....

Aw hope you feel better soon!

I love Thanksgiving food! My appetite has finally started coming back and the nausea is dying down so yay, perfect timing! I love turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing with gravy all over the place lol. And then dipping the bread in the mix, mmm.

I'm making sweet potato pie and white choco/cranberry scones this year! We also have regular, mashed sweet potatoes, but hubby really likes sweet potato pie so I make that mostly for him.

At that moment he's whipping up a mascarpone mouse with sliced strawberries just for funsies... it sounds pretty delish!

@MJC1116 - where about are you in CA? In in the central valley and the weather has been wonderful lately! It's a good, cool night for french onion soup!

I think it's just the three of us this year, so we won't be going all out. DS requested ham this year instead of turkey, and I know I'll make homemade mashed potatoes with sour cream (my favorite part of TG!). Probably a couple of other traditional foods and some kind of pie! My favorite is chocolate chip pecan but DH won't eat nuts so that's out, dang it!

  • I love thanksgiving, but this year I'm blahhhhh. Ive been having lots of hip pains which are seriously making me so ugh. I usually cook for dh & I and we stay home solo. But this year were going to my moms because I refuse to cook. My feet are so swollen I'm tired N just dont wanna. My fav is stuffing with canned cranberry sauce & empanadas.

Tonight I made nachos. I didn't feel like cooking anything big. Ground turkey, diced onions and peppers cooked together. Tostinos chips. Avacado, and diced cucumber lettuce and tomatoes. With cheese n sour cream. Yum. Dh and I love it. Its 20 degrees here in jersey so stew is tomorrows dinner.

  • i loooove thanksgiving but unfortunately have to work for a bit that day

1- i LOVE stuffing but while waiting in the ob office last wk i was reading bon appetit mag and apparently it's called "dressing' when it's not actually in the turkey.  who knew. of course i'm making it and yeah i even love the stove top box kind!

2- special family recipes: not really but DH's mom makes this broccoli cheese dish with crushed ritz crackers on top which is easy to make and tasty.

3-hmm other recipes for the week: no i'm so picky these days!

  • @katekat8721, I'm in SoCal, specifically LA. Last week's weather was wonderfully welcomed after a week of 90 degree heat. Bleh. I think it's supposed to rain here on Thanksgiving! I love it! (Last year it was in the 80s and we were sorely disappointed.)

  • I absolutely love thanksgiving but I am a little nervous about this year! Not only and I nervous about keeping my mouth shut about the pregnancy, and my college football team is playing their rivals, but I am worried my symptoms will make it so I can't really enjoy it!

I sat down with my mom over lunch today to look over recipes and I just was not into it. The whole time I wanted to be like, "Nothing looks good right now!!". But, she doesn't know about the pregnancy so I tried my darndest to be enthusiastic.

The favorite thing we always have is a Butternut Squash soup. yummmm.
