Pgal brain needing some support

I don't go on the pgal board so I hope this isn't annoying since we haven't had a lot of posts like this lately. I'm a FTM, 18 weeks today and last night we noticed that my bump has all but disappeared. This morning its the same. I can pretty mich suck my stomach in flat. I know it likely means nothing and we had an elective US Monday that was fine and showed an active little girl. I'm not having cramping or anything else alarmimg. I've cut back on sodium in the last two days just because we haven't done a lot of eating out. I'm peeing a lot too. Is anyone or has anyone had fluctuating bumps? Thanks in advance y'all!

  • I still had no bump with dd at 18w, so it sounds perfectly reasonable for it to have been bloat going down- especially if you've had less sodium and more liquid output. Sorry about the pgal brain- it's a b*tch.

  • Don't worry mama! You just saw baby and have no reason to worry. I remember there was a girl in my prenatal class who I thought was there awfully early - she was 7 months!! She had no bump and was tiny. Everyone's body is different. PGal brain sucks!

  • Sorry you're dealing with this. At 18 weeks, some days my bump definitely seems smaller and I also get worried about it, even though I logically know everything is fine. It makes sense with the less sodium that your losing the bloat part of your bump.

I'm sure in another month, there wont be anything you can do that will made that bump fade :)

I think just focusing on seeing your sweet little girl, happy as can be in there would be your best bet, but I'm sure it's hard to turn off those doubts.

    Sending you positive, calming thoughts!

  • My bump shrank too at around 18w, it was really just the remaining bloat going away. Trust me, I'm 21w now and HOLY BUMP, BATMAN.

PGAL brain is a terrible mistress, but try to remember your great ultrasound and the fact that even if something had happened to the baby (which it hasn't) it would not, at this point, affect your bump at all.

  • Thanks ladies!! Seriously! It feels like back sliding. But that's a great point that it wouldn't affect my bump. Which is logical and rational but not where my brain went! Ha! Thanks for the support and help. It really makes a difference!

  • I'm a first time mom and I had noticed my bump doing major fluctuations. especially when it first started being an actual bump.

  • I am 18 weeks and 1 day. I noticed my bump seems a lot smaller today. I know this has happened before, but I thought at this point, it wouldn't happen anymore. I am trying to remain calm/rational, but it makes me nervous too (especially after two losses). I have an ultrasound tomorrow and hopefully will receive reassuring news. Hang in there. You're not alone.
  • If you saw baby on Monday and know he or she was alright, then don't worry about the bump. Even if something did happen to LO between then and now, the baby can't just disappear, you know? LO would still be in there. So I think the bump thing a few days after a successful ultrasound would be a little irrelevant because something could happen to LO and you would still have the bump, baby hasn't gone anywhere. :) I understand the stress, I'm not pgal but I had a lot of issues with baby early on and I still stress over everything.

  • I didn't have a bump at all with DS until I was 6 months pregnant, so it could easily be bloat decrease, especially with the reduction in sodium (water retention). (((hugs))).
  • I had the same thing happen btwn 17 and 18 wks. I freaked out and posted on here too :) all is well now and my 21 wk belly cannot be sucked in even if I tried.

  • I have something similar happening now, in the middle of my 17th week.  I figured it's just bloat going down, although being PgAL definitely makes it easy to think the worst.

    Hang in there!
  • ((hugs)) PGAL brain sucks big time.

  • (HUGS!)  Pgal brain is so frustrating!  Sorry you're having a flare-up of it...I agree with what everyone else has said- bloat decrease, etc.  I was 25 weeks with DS before I needed new pants- it's ok/good to have a little bump! (just wait...it's coming)  :)

  • this happened to me a week ago! i am a PGAL and  i started to feel like i was showing two weeks ago then last week it was just gone. i had an appt already set up so my midwife let me hear the heart beat and said everything was perfectly fine and i was probably more bloated than baby showing. i had been drinking alot of sprite and i stopped and i think that got rid of a lot of the bloat.

Sorry you're worrying. :( Mine fluctuated like that in the beginning, and just as I was starting to worry about why I hadn't had anything more than a bloat bump (around 16 weeks), I got a legit baby bump the next day! I think even though baby is really small right now (I'm 18 weeks and 3 days), you're still able to notice when baby changes positions. For example, my bump is usually pretty even, but when I was laying down earlier, the right of my bump seemed higher than the left. I figured that's where baby was, and now it's back to normal! So maybe your baby is just all nestled and snuggled in the back or something. :)

    Edited for clarity.
