Update re " my nephews early arrival"

Baby is still in hospital but doing really well. He is Off oxygen . All bloodtest re strep b , came back clear. He is in a regular bed now . They still " teaching " him how to suck properly . I would have posted a pic of him. But his mum ( my youngest sis) is all sensitive about it. She only wants to send around pics once he is out of hospital ! Ok I will def respect that . She has recovered well from this slightly dramatic early birth . Now it's my turn .7 weeks left to go. Have a lovely weekend. Xxx

He was born at the end of week 35! It's just that little bit of extra time that he needed . The magical 37 weeks . But I have heard plenty times before that even babies at week 34 were completely fine from the beginning. And others had breathing problems at 40 weeks . All in all, every baby is just a miracle on its own !

  • One of my friends had a very similar experience to your sister (discomfort, water break, out comes baby in the hallway of her house), but several weeks earlier than your sister -- 34ish weeks. The baby only spent one day in the NICU. You're absolutely right, some early babies do really well and full term babies can have problems -- you just never know.

While the home birth is not ideal if that isn't what she was planning, delivering at 37 weeks sounds pretty damn good to me!
  • No I made a bit of a mistake in my first post. It was not 37 weeks yet.( thought her actual due date was earlier ) She was at the end of week 35 when she had this baby

Gotcha. 35 weeks is still not too bad, though. Fortunately.
  • I'm told 34 weeks is the magic number around here, too. That's great to hear your nephew is doing so well!

  • Absolutely . It's just the first time that it's happening in my family ... And with being 33 weeks preg myself , it just "feels" a bit different. But we are very happy and thankfull that all is going so well.

Understandably. I think we're kind of used to it around here because there are several ladies who had their babies much, much earlier than that, but I can understand how it would be kind of scary until you knew everything was ok.

@Esthi, you brought what up? Your posts are vague and I keep trying to understand them, but it's quite difficult.
  • O sorry it was unclear . I did not realise . What I was trying to say is : that because quite a few ladies over here had their babies earlier than expected ( before week 37), that's why I decided to share about the "early arrival " in our family . Do you understand what I mean ? By now all they want is, that he can drink properly . After that he is allowed to go home. My sister can't wait to have him home already !!
  • @peanutmuse: I was just wondering , when are you due for your baby ??
