Babies: 9 - 12 Months

WDYT - baby sleeping with blanket at 7.5 months

K normally sleeps in thick fleece jammies and a light sleep sack over that, but I always find him laying on his tummy with his arms tucked all the way underneath him.  I think his arms or hands may get cold.  When I finally got him down for a nap today I noticed he was missing a sock and it was a tad chilly.  I didn't want to wake  him, so I just laid a blanket over him. I just checked on him and he's all snuggled up with it, not sleeping on his tummy with his arms under him.  It just looks more comfortable.

I'm thinking of going ahead and letting him start sleeping with a blanket.

  • DD started sleeping with a blanket about a month ago, and I think it's fine. She can easily pull blankets off of her head so I felt comfortable with it.

  • Good to know.  Thanks!
  • We use a blanket too. We just tuck it in at the bottom of the mattress so she can't pull it over her head.  She actually can scoot upward in the crib and not downward, so she scoots away from the blanket.  She never scoots under it.  And I've played with her numerous times and know that she can pull a blanket off her face.

  • Our DS has been sleeping with a blanket for as long as i can remember.
  • DS slept with a receiving blanket up until about a few weeks ago.  He likes to hold onto it.  We switched to a little 12x12 blanket that I made him just because he rolls like a maniac around his crib and DH found him chewing on it, but it was wrapped around his neck.  Yikes!  His blanket isn't to keep him warm though. It's more like a lovey for him.

  • We've also been using a blanket since we stopped swaddling, around 3 months. At this point its too friggin' cold not to.
