Nipples suddenly sore again?

LO isn't quite 4 months yet and I had lots of pain at the beginning of BFing with latching but have been pain free for about 6 weeks now but suddenly in the last week, they're sore to latch again. Has this happened to anyone else?

There's got to be other reasons besides pregnancy right? DH had a vasectomy 2 months ago and hasn't gotten the all clear yet so we've used a condom everytime except for once and he pulled out.... I haven't gotten my period back or anything. Chances of pregnancy are extremely low.... Right?

    Same here. I was thinking about posting about this, but my fussy baby is very needy today. This is going back to week 3 nip pain. I half expect them to bleed because they hurt so badly.

    I took a test last week because of this and several other symptoms, but it was BFN.

    Here's hoping this passes soon.

    Mine hurt a ton a couple weeks ago. DS was nursing a lot more and for longer at each feeding, which was likely the reason. It lasted a few days and got better.

    I don't think its thrush though I was on antibiotics last week for a sinus infection. I do know we've been in the throes of teething though. Drooling, red cheeks, fussiness etc, I never even thought of that!

    I know chances are low for pregnancy but it still makes me worry! Maybe I will get a test! Ugh.

    My money's on thrush, even without other symptoms. You were on antibiotics, which puts you at increased risk for thrush. @Asbromle had thrush and no symptoms other than sore nipples.

    It's unlikely that you are KTFU, but it couldn't hurt to take a test.

    I thought thrush too especially after you said antibiotics.

    Happened to me too... I think LO started sucking harder. My LC checked me for thrush etc but it looked like it was more likely just LO latching differently and sucking differently. They are fine now but definitely were sore again!

    Now I can't stop thinking about being KU. I'm going to POAS tonight just to ease my mind. It's got to extremely minuscule chances but....still. I need to ease my mind.

    I'm not sure about thrush...I don't have itching and nipples aren't red or anything. I guess it could be. But LO definitely has the boob ADD too. Especially since he started teething.

    I would die if I was KU again. Just spent a half hour car ride with my 3 year freaking out because his older brother got silly putty for his birthday today and he wanted it. The baby hates the carseat so screamed the whole way home too. It was an orchestra of screaming. Almost comical. No way we want to add a 4th to that orchestra!

    I agree with all the PPs--baby ADD, latching and re-latching over and over?  In my case I am adding extra pump sessions into the day too so my nips were working around the clock--I went back to air drying and used a little lanolin, and all is well now.

    Same here! I was assuming bc LO has been so fussy and pulling on them and pulling off a lot. Teething maybe? It hurts!

    Yes you are normal,

    with change in feeding habits, more frequent feedings, pulling on them like they are a chew toy will make for sore nips.

    also as you go past certain points, your hormones change and that can also make them sore.

    probably/hopefully you are NOT pg again!

    Thanks for the reply, @AmyG*:D I think the chew toy idea is probably it. I must confess this was part of my motivation for a recent POAS!

    It stinks because there was a good three weeks where NOTHING about BFing hurt. :) I seriously thought they were going to start bleeding again last week. Oh wells. :D

    Same here. I've been cracked and my skin has split around both my nipples. I really haven't even been able to pump at my usual suction so my supply has crashed. I even have considered being done breastfeeding this week. DS is definitely the little ADD/teething/grinder. But just now I pumped (gently!) 4 oz out of the sore side so I think its getting better.

    I am another one with sore nips, I just went back to work so I blamed it on the extra pumping, but we have nursing ADD too. I hope this phase passes quickly for everyone.
