Doctor visits WWYD

My whole household has had a cold recently, including LO. It's congestion and coughing from post nasal drip without any fever. I'm not sure when or if to take LO to the doctor. She just started coughing today, just once every hour or so and still no fever. She's 15 weeks old, eating/sleeping fine, normal diapers too. WWYD? Doctor visit for the cough? TIA!

    Maybe give them a call first then you'll know whether the visit is necessary or not.

    LO ended up with a cold when she was 3 weeks old.  I was terrified and she seemed to have trouble breathing without coughing.  I brought her in and the doctor looked her over briefly and listened to her breath and said that since she doesn't have a fever, and it's just a cough and a stuffy nose, gave me some suggestions on how to make her feel better, and told me to keep an eye on it.  He just wanted to make sure it was a cold, and not pneumonia.  I'm glad I went, but really the doctor didn't do much.  I would just call and explain whats happening, and see if they have any advice.

    I've heard that anytime a newborn has a cough they need I be seen about. Newborns coughing can be dangerous, apparently.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
    DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
    FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

    Good to know.. LO has a cough at the moment too. H has passed on a cold to us all

    I had the same situation. LOhas a pretty gnarly cough. It doesn't sound like whooping cough/croup. I called and the nurse said at any sign of a fever to bring him in. She advised me to elevate his bed, run a cool mist humidifier and to use saline drops/bulb syringe. We were already doing all of that, so as long as it doesn't get worse I'm not overly worried. I just feel bad for him. :-(

    Yes, take her in so the doctor has a baseline in case it gets worse.

    No fever and what sounds like a mild cough (once every hour or so)- I wouldn't bother with a doctor.

    Yup.

    If baby had a wheeze, sounded like he had to catch his breath after coughing or the "whoop" sound of course. then I would take him in to get checked out.

    Thanks everyone! We will continue using saline drops, suctioning snot, and checking for any fever and worsening cough.
