6 hour old milk

DS picked up his sippy cup of milk that DH heated at noon and just drink the 2 oz that were left. It is now after 6pm - I'm really annoyed that DH left it on the floor this long, but more importantly- DYT DS is going to get sick? Am I in for a crying night of a stomachache?

Re: 6 hour old milk

  • I think if it turned your DS would not like the taste.
  • Loading the player...
  • I leave milk out on the counter all day on Sundays (bc I drink a LOT of coffee and hate pouring cold milk in my coffee) and its never been an issue. Milk is pasteurized. It should be fine.
  • He probably would have spit it up immediately....I think you'll be fine :)
  • You should be fine. You'd be surprised how long coffee shops often leave their milk sitting out (the urns aren't intended to keep it proper temperature from 7a-10p), and it doesn't bother anyone. Now if they got caught doing that during a health inspection, it's not good.

Now, my kids put their drinks back in the fridge before they leave the kitchen, but both SD and DS always had a cup of milk, often that had been out for several hours. If I questioned its safety, I'd take a sniff or taste of it myself after they had it in their cup for a few hours.

As for kids spitting it out, DH never was good about making the kids keep their drinks in the kitchen like I did until we got new living room furniture. DS often lost his cup in his room and DH would make a new one instead of finding the old one. The led to many occasions when I would walk into DS's room and ask, "Now where did that come from? And how long have you had that in your room?" as he was guzzling down the last bit. Yuck!
