  • QOTW: I am responsible for the pies for thanksgiving so im making a chocolate coffee cream pie and a pumpkin cheesecake! Here is the chocolate coffee cream pie recipe. So good!
Filling:1 cup heavy cream,1/4 cup light corn syrup,2 tablespoons butter,1 teaspoon vanilla extract,10 ounces dark chocolate, chopped,One 9-inch prepared chocolate cookie crust, such as Oreo Pie Crust.
Coffee Whipped Cream Topping: 1 1/2 cups heavy cream,1/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread, such as Nutella,1 tablespoon instant espresso or coffee,1 tablespoon sugar,2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions For the filling: Heat the cream in a medium saucepot over medium-low heat. When hot, whisk in the corn syrup, butter, coffee liqueur, vanilla and chocolate. Mix until all the ingredients are fully incorporated into the cream and the mixture is smooth and silky. Remove from the heat and pour into the prepared chocolate cookie crust. Place in the refrigerator until completely cooled and set, about 1 hour.
For the topping: In a large chilled metal bowl, combine the cream, chocolate hazelnut spread, instant espresso, sugar and vanilla. Whip with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
To assemble: Place the coffee whipped cream topping on top of the filling. Smooth out with a spatula so that all the filling is completely covered with the topping. Place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

    This pie sounds amazing!!!

  • @Letsgobowlingx did I get your date wrong? If so let me know and I'll fix it cause I thought you were 13 weeks next week? Sometimes I confuse myself with all these dates lol

@germangirl2007 You shouldn't feel like you are imposing. That is what thanksgiving is all about, welcoming people into your home and its very nice that they invited you. I'm sorry your DH is OOT. Even if you decide to spend it alone I hope you do something nice for yourself!

    @missusw218, @RG0405 welcome!!

  • @letsgobowlingx no problem i just wanted to make sure I didn't leave any confusion for the next person to take over.
  • Hi 1st Tri Ladies!

We had our first OB appointment on Monday.  I got to hear the heartbeat, but with the doppler, it's hard to tell whether its one or two!  and 8 more weeks until the next u/s - but I guess that's good news because we're healthy!  morning sickness is somewhat better but maybe I'm just getting used to it!  I am down 7 lbs from pre-pregnancy, but I do plan on gaining it all back at Thanksgiving!

DH and I alternate whether we spend Thanksgiving with his family or mine. This year we will be driving 8 hrs to my family for the 4 day weekend!  I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone and telling my Grandma!  She's been asking for "more than a great-grand-dog" for years now!  We have it easy coming from out of town, but I usually help out and make a few pies the day before. I love all the pies - pumpkin, fruit, pecan - anything!  with my mom's homemade whipped cream of course.

    Hello ladies!

I am 9 weeks today!!! Undst undst undst undst!!!

My OB decided to switch on the 4D this week and voilá. I saw my baby hanging out, laying on my uterus. Look -->

QOTD: I am making cranberry sauce from scratch.

1 pound fresh cranberries, washed and dried
    2 cups granulated sugar
    1/3 cup water
    1 cinnamon stick
    1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 orange, zested and juiced

Simmer all ingredients until cranberries are tender but before they loose their shape.

I am also making a Beet, walnut, chevre salad. Easy. Roast berts until tender. Remove skin. Toss with goat cheese and warm walnuts. Then make a vinagrette (I like it with a little bit of mustard) and voilá.
  • @nancy1250 omg look at your LO just kicking back and relaxing! love it!
  • Hi ladies!  I am just trucking along.  Not much in the way of symptoms -- I'm really tired, but not really sick or anything -- but this is my third pregnancy and I never really got real morning sickness during any of them, so I've just decided I'm a person who doesn't get ms (or at least believing that helps me stay a little calmer about lack of symptoms).  It helps that two of my closest Bump friends never got morning sickness during their healthy pregnancies -- one is almost ready to deliver and the other is 15w with twins.

My RE likes to wait until your 7th week to do the first ultrasound, so that you are pretty much guaranteed a hb if the pregnancy is viable.  Mine will be Wednesday 11/27 -- I'll be 7w3d -- and waiting for it is killing me.  I have been having a lot of anxiety about whether all is well in there.  BUT time will tell, I guess.

QOTW: We are in charge of veggies this year.  I think we are roasting brussels sprouts with pancetta, and I am thinking of making this squash: https://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/10/dining/10chefrex2.html?ref=dining&_r=0

  • 10w3d here and weaning off my PIO, hooray! I'm also trying a new Zofran dosing schedule that seems to work better at keeping things under control.

Thanksgiving: I actually am not cooking anything. My nausea has been super bad so if I'm feeling ok that day I'll help out with stuff but otherwise my mom and H are in charge. And we have an alternate bland meal on standby for me in case the traditional stuff is no bueno.

  • Hi ladies and Happy early Thanksgiving,

I'm 9w5d and trucking along...counting the days until 2nd trimester :) My nausea has gotten better this week, not as frequent. But I'm still sooo tired. I'm sure running around with my toddler DD doesn't help :) I'm not complaining though...I'm thankful for ever second of it.

I bought a fetal doppler a week ago and was struggling to find the heartbeat. Then last night we heard it loud and clear! The best sound ever.

QOTW: I'm making a wild rice pilaf with cranberries and pecans...thanks to Martha Stewart.

  • @Mwhigham22 I can't believe this is your last check-in!  Good luck on 2nd tri!
@twistsandturnsto2 How tall are you?  I have been having trouble with the length of stuff as I buy cheap clothes in bigger sizes.  I'm 5'5 so usually a little too tall for petite pants.
@Germangirl2007 You are not allowed to stay home by yourself on Thanksgiving!  That would be way too depressing!  I understand Thanksgiving with your co-worker could be awkward but I bet they would enjoy the company.
@ball.and.chain I haven't had morning sickness either.  It freaked me out at first but so far everything has been progressing as it should.

  • @whoberry I'm 5ft 1 and "short" sizes are usually good, but these pants are running just a bit too long. Since I will be wearing them at work in a restaurant I don't want any drag on the floor at all. ESP since I will probably have to switch to something like a ballet flat for shoes later on. Other than that they fit great!

  • Can I be added? I think my due date is Jul 22. Ultrasound is Monday, and I can't wait. I know we may not see the heartbeat so early (est 5w4d-5w6d) but hopefully this will make me a bit less anxious. I am assuming 1 bean, but we did IUI with 2 decent sized follies so I guess 2 is a possibility.

Thanksgiving: My husband is the chef, not me! We are hosting but it is just us and my parents so we keep it pretty simple. Although this year will be different because my husband is now gluten-free.

  • We had our first visit on Wednesday - I'm half happy and happy disappointed that there's only one baby in there. But, thrilled that it had a nice strong heartbeat. It is measuring a few days small, but the NP was not concerned. She said it can be really difficult to get the exact pinpoints to accurately measure. Queasiness is a bit worse, but cramping is a less. So it all evens out.

QOTW I'm in charge of wine. Go figure. Since we are traveling quite a distance and staying in a hotel, they gave us the easy assignment. I'll thrown in some sparkling cider or something for myself.

  • 12 wks 2 days and still so sick. My stomach is upset all the time and so much worse at night. I can't get much accomplished and am trying hard to not get down. I just feel like I want to be in bed all day and I am so used to being super active. I am really hoping for some second tri relief!! Hope everyone else is hanging in there.

QOTD: I'm not making anything. We go from in-laws to in-laws. Happy thanksgiving all.

  • @anations I'm at 11w5d and my ms picked up this week too. I *almost* lost it and broke into tears the other day bc I felt so sick and then I felt guilty/bad for being so upset about it. I'm just telling myself that FX this part is over soon and the "fun" stuff is just yet to come.

  • Hi ladies - sorry for the late post but I didn't have much to update on Friday when I was bumping.  I did have my first OB appt that afternoon and everything was still looking good.  She did a full exam including PAP, transvag u/s, bloodwork, gave me instructions for scheduling my NT, etc.  I was there a really long time and waited a lot between the different things, so that's my only complaint.  I'm still debating between OB and midwife, and now the only reason I'm leaning toward just staying with my OB is because she knows my history.  I had a LEEP done several years ago after an abnormal PAP, so I'm at risk of going into labor early since my cervix has scar tissue on it....she knows that and is going to be giving me 1 or 2 additional u/s to check and make sure my cervix is stretching like it should.  She also wants me to test for GD twice since I have a history of insulin resistance and PCOS.  These are all things that the midwives don't necessarily know about and didn't mention when I met with them even though I mentioned these things.  I have another appt with the midwives on Saturday, so I'm going to bring these items up and see what their responses are - hopefully good because I really would prefer to go with a midwife if it makes sense.  Other than that it went fine - got to see baby and hear his/her heartbeat again...that's always reassuring!  I am still bleeding, 4 days later, from the PAP....hopefully it's still from that and nothing more.  It's kinda annoying now, though.

Congrats to all of the ladies who are moving over to 2nd tri!!  So exciting :D

QOTW: This is really bad, but I cook nothing for Thanksgiving and I probably never will lol.  My mom cooks everything, and she likes it.  DH might make a broccoli cheese casserole to bring, but that's it.  I'm more of a baker, but I only do it if I have time.  In my industry November is always a busy month, so I really don't have much time to bake and get things like that ready before Thanksgiving, it always seems to sneak up on me.  I did make carrot cake cupcakes yesterday, but I have yet to try them.  If they taste OK I'll probably bring those, but that's really it.

I can't even think about food right now, so no good recipe to share.  :(
