daycare gift poll

how many are you giving to and what are you giving?

DD has a main teacher and an assistant, DS has a main and 2 assistants.  I'm thinking $10 DD cards and a small gift, lotion, cookies, or something.  It doesn't seem like alot, but it adds up quick.  I suppose I could do $20 for the 5 teachers.  I'm leaving out the owner and her husband who are there in the morning.  The owner's husband spend alot of time with DS when we 1st started helping him to adjust.  I should given them a gift too, although I think I'll just give them a gift and stay away from cash or gift card, they already get almost 1/2 my pay check.

We're doing $50 gift cards for DD's two teachers, $30 to the main floater and $20 to the two secondary floaters.

  • My daycare rotates the teachers so much that I've have to buy for half the staff!  I'm thinking of sending an Edible Arrangement in on the day that I know most of her teachers are working.  That way they can all share it.

If it were a smaller number of people, I'd do something small and a GC, just like you've suggested.

    Married DH 7/30/11

    CSC arrived 5/7/12

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • I run a daycare and what my teachers seem to like the most is gift cards and or people bringing in coffee and donuts for the whole staff.. It usually doesn't really cost more but everyone enjoys it!

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

I have always given cash as a gift to daycare providers.  I hate telling someone where to spend the money I've given them as a gift.  For all I know, they're trying to make a mortgage payment and what good is a Starbucks card going to be for that?

ETA: when my youngest was in a home-based daycare, I gave 1 week's care in cash.  When my kids were in a centre, I gave $50 to each of the teachers.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I buy for 10-12 ppl. They get scratch off lotto tix-a big hit!

  • My mom taught preschool for 20+ years. I think except for a few visa/mc type gift cards you can use everywhere, she re-gifted just about every gift. I bought a bottle of wine for LO's teacher and assistant last year that way they can bring it to a holiday dinner/keep it/gift it. LO had a teacher that wasn't 21 and I got them a box of chocolates.
For LO's classmates i bought the $1 sesame street book in the bins at the front of Target

I just found out most districts around here (or maybe it's state law???) limit gifts for teachers to $3. Three. dollars.
Whatever, DS goes to Catholic School, so I got his teacher, her two associates and his two main childcare ladies each a small stained glass angel. I will probably come up with some kind of treat or gift card to go with each.

ETA: Just reread OP and realized this is referring to daycare. DS is in PreK. He's never, ever been in daycare around the holidays, so I've never been faced with this dilemma. I work weird hours and DH has been in various states of employment for DS' entire life and we've always given up on using a center by mid-summer. LOL
  • I have an in-home DCP and we usually give her a Target gift card between $50 and $100...depends on our budget for that year.
