Re: Fit Moms Friday!

  • I did OK this week getting on the treadmill twice & prenatal yoga last night. Life got in the way a bit since my husband is off work this week. Hopefully next week will be better!

  • Great post @CalinAZ! This is much better than the "weight" posts!

How Far Along Are you: 20 weeks today

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): continue to lead a healthy lifestyle, even while pregnant. I view pregnancy as a magical moment, a time to add to my healthy mindset, eat to the best of my abilities, and continue to exercise and strengthen my body and soul.

Week's Successes: Prenatal yoga has been a fantastic new addition to my workout.

Week's Challenges: nothing too big, had a cold earlier this week, but due to how I treat my body I feel as if I was able to get over the cold fairly easy

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? I love cleaning/ organizing my home/ business. I'm an organizing nut! I love crisp air, so walking outdoors around the neighborhood this time of year is very soothing to me. And my favorite holiday activity: gift wrapping. I design my own gift tags...

How Far Along Are you: 19w and some days...check the ticker ;)
Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): gain no more than 15lbs through pregnancy (I'm a plus size momma) and keep active!
Week's Successes:  Um, this was a tough week...
Week's Challenges:  My daughter has a pretty bad cold and waking up in the middle of the night to give her medicine was a regular part of the routine this week.  Not gonna lie, when I get up at 3am, I turn off my alarm to go running in the morning.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related?  I love to run in the cold.  It's my absolute favorite.  It really sucks when you are sucking in large amounts of frigid air but once you get used to it, it's amazing!

ETA:  Apparently I'm 20 weeks and some days, not 19....haha
  • How Far Along Are you:  21 weeksHealth/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Working out at least 2x week, trying to only indulge every now and thenWeek's Successes: I got to the gym twice and ate healthy mealsWeek's Challenges:  I made brownies and ate a majority of them :)
GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related?  I love decorating the Christmas tree!!
  • How Far Along Are you: 20w 2 d
Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): maintain muscle, stay within weight gain guidelines, have a natural delivery, bounce back from labor/birth.
Week's Successes: Hit the gym 4 times this week and did one Insanity video.
Week's Challenges: getting up early enough in the am, finding workout clothes that still fit and chocolate...it is always chocolate

My favorite activity for this time of year is going to see lights. There are two parks here that have them and I love the Zoo Lights at Columbus Zoo.
  • OK, I will join in for motivation!

How far along are you: 19w4d

Health/Fitness Goal: Exercise regularly and keep a reasonable weight gain

Week's Successes:  Exercised almost every day this week.  Thanks to my insomnia returning, I am up at about 4:30 am, so I have been dragging my butt down to the basement to hit the equipment

Week's Challenges:  Ordered lunch in twice this week @ work due to meetings, and had my birthday.  So there were cupcakes, cookies, etc. and my willpower just is not what it used to be!

Favorite Activity this time of year: Decorating, shopping, and going to see the lights.

  • How Far Along Are you: 19w, 3d

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Keep in shape, active, and having fun! Helps me to reduce aches and pains.

Week's Successes: Started a Sunday afternoon pre-natal class, and its great! It's a serious yoga flow, just non-heated! I was afraid that it'd be this super-easy "stretching only" yoga, but it's a legit workout and I'm really excited about it. And I've been going to my hip hop classes and they're really fun.

Week's Challenges: I bought a box of Whoppers, but WHATEVER because I freaking love Whoppers.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? I, too, enjoy organizing my business in the down time cold months, and also spending time with family for the holidays! We'll see lots of our family and friends between now and Christmas :) Indoor I love yoga and hip hop, and I only go outside if it's a mild day for a long walk.

How Far Along Are you: 19w5d

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Keep in shape, active. I'm used to working out a lot as I'm a competitive athlete.

Week's Successes: Worked out every day expect last night and I brought out my bike trainer to set up my bike to ride indoors (since I don't fit any of my winter cycling clothes). I miss my bike so much. It's the only cardio I do. Everything else is strength or yoga.

Week's Challenges: I went to visit my family, my aunt made me a cake to take home. I ate 3 pieces (1.5" by 3" in size, one layer) on Monday. 3!!!

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? I switch my focus to strength training from November to January typically and don't ride my bike outside commuting to work. This year I will keep up my prenatal strength routines and add in indoor trainer time to at least 3 days a week for about an hour each time.

  • How far along are you: 20 weeks tomorrow!  (Hooray, halfway point!)

Health/fitness goal: I've been trying to keep up with Crossfit at least twice a week (at my best, - pre-pregnancy - I was going three or four times a week, as well as doing cardio workouts twice a week), but it's definitely dropped in intensity.

Week's successes: My dad got an indoor stationary bike to help with his Parkinson's, and I did thirty minutes on that the other day - while playing Black Ops with my brother and SO.  Multitasking for the win?  :P

Week's challenges: Carbs.  Carbs, carbs, and more carbs.  I swear, I think I've had pizza ten times this week alone... fruits and veggies have definitely taken a backseat to my other cravings x_x.

GTKY: Favorite activity this time of year?  If there was any snow out there, I would say sledding/skiing, but since it's still looking like October here, I'll have to go with making holiday crafts :-).  I've been working on baby related crafts/projects and it's putting me in the holiday spirit at last!

P.S. I love reading all the workout/healthy goals on here, it really helps to see how many expectant moms are still trying to be active - I've already dealt with some negativity from acquaintances when I talk about still doing Crossfit while pregnant, and it bugs me especially when my own (slightly old-fashioned) doctor said I can continue working out as long as I listen to my body.  People treat pregnant women like we have leprosy or something!

  • Can I join? Hoping this will motivate me to get off my a$$ and do something.  I had lost 15+lbs just before I found out I was pregnant and I have put it all back on plus.

How Far Along Are you:  19wks 4days
Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share):  To start moving:  Prenatal yoga and walking more.
Week's Successes:  Tried to cook healthier meals for the family.
Week's Challenges:  Sweets, especially mini reese's.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related?  When the snow arrives x-country skiing (I'm a beginner), snowshoeing & sledding.  Seeing family and decorating for Christmas (not until after Thanksgiving Day)

  • How Far Along Are you: 21w2d

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): remain active and healthy like I was pre-prego

Week's Successes: I truly enjoy my ashtanga yoga and am glad that I can continue with it. I have practiced 3x this week so far and love it!

Week's Challenges: most times when I do cardio on the elliptical I get light-headed. I always have used one and am surprised that I get light-headed even after easing up on the resistance and ensuring that my HR is less than 150.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? I just love spending time with family and friends at dinners and Christmas parties. I also love doing cookie day with my girlfriends and look forward to it each year. My girlfriends and I used to go out each thanksgiving eve but this year because I am KU and they aren't, I am not sure if I will go with them. There will be many more years to drink with them!
  • How Far Along Are you: 21 weeks 3 days!
Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): I'm just trying to stay active & keep doing the things I love
Week's Successes: the hubs was in Europe this week so I had the dogs all by myself (a malamute & a husky). We ran 4 mornings, evening hikes 4 days. One day we went to the dog park & hiked for 2 hours. Tried my new fitness dvd's too, pre-natal yoga twice this week & pre-natal Pilates once. I'm working from home do it is doable to fit this all in this week luckily.
Week's Challenges: when hubs is away I give into my urges! Made cookies & ate a lot of them! Also had some cheesecake, so bad but so good!

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? This time of year it's cross country skiing! Just getting more snow but I need to work so can't go. I'm also not sure how much skiing I'll get to this winter, not the safest activity while pregnant.
  • This is a great thread!

How Far Along Are you: 21 weeks, 1 day

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Trying to stay healthy and toned (where it is possible) throughout pregnancy and to make post pregnancy recovery easier. Using exercise to help stay free of pain (especially in back and hips) and sleep better and to have a healthier LO! My goals are to get to the gym a minimum of 2x/week and yoga or another pregnancy exercise DVD 3x/week plus go for a walk everyday (I have to do this for my first LO, the dog!)

Week's Successes: I had lots of energy this week so got to the gym 2x already and have been doing my DVDs every day. Dog has not had very long walks due to a rainy week.

Week's Challenges: Rain ( I live in Los Angeles, this is a big deal to us) :)

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related?
I love going on hikes this time of year. The air is usually very clean and the views are breathtaking around sunset.

  • All these posts about prenatal yoga are making me so jealous!  There aren't many options for yoga where I live unfortunately, especially that work around my job schedule :-/.

Week's Challenges: when hubs is away I give into my urges! Made cookies & ate a lot of them! Also had some cheesecake, so bad but so good!
Oh my goodness, now I want to play hooky from work and make chocolate chip cookies!  XD

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): To eat healthfully, move at least a few times a week, and mainly just feel healthy (does that count?)
Week's Successes: I started cooking! I'm off the cereal/pasta kick that was my entire first trimester and then some, and have been incorporating way more leafy greens, seeds, and veggies.
Week's Challenges: I've had absolutely no physical activity this week! Feeling like a bum. Plus, I've been eating more dessert along with my veggies...so maybe I'm just breaking even :)

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related?

I am getting obsessed with the super cheesy Hallmark holiday movies! I've been camping out in front of the TV at my sister's place--and it's been really nice to just relax and hang out and watch Christmas movies.

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Ease back into jogging and be able to jog for a half hour straight (I used to be a marathoner but have taken a year off from running because I got very burned out)
Week's Successes: Made it to the gym once
Week's Challenges: Only made it to the gym once...lol

Week's Successes: Worked out on Tuesday and Thursday -- treadmill for 30 minutes of speed intervals and weights

  • Love this thread!

How Far Along Are you: 21 weeks

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Stay active, make healthy food choices, I want to be in decent shape for labor and recovery after the LO is here

Week's Successes: This week I got back into the habit of taking healthy lunches and snacks to work and tried harder to limit cakes/cookies/chocolate

Week's Challenges: Coworkers brought in some snacks- one was my favorite chips, and I had too much. I wasn't feeling so great this week so I skipped one of my workouts.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? I love baking- which has the potential to get me in a whole mess of trouble with the healthy eating!

  • Thanks for everyone who has shared so far!

How Far Along Are you: 18 weeks

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Be active 5 days a week, make healthy food choices (more natural, less processed) so that I can have a healthy pregnancy, labor, and little one.

Week's Successes: Made my fitness goal! Some of the workouts were a little short, but I got in my days, which is challenging enough. I also cooked more this week, so we ate healthier than we did last week.

Week's Challenges: Halloween candy. It's *almost* gone, but I have been indulging a bit too much. I also bought snacks from the vending machine a couple times because I was hungry and needed a snack. Need to remember to pack something for times I work late.

GTKY: What's your favorite activity this time of year? Indoor? Outdoor? Holiday related? Sitting in front of the fire with some candles going:). Granted, our fireplace is a sort of sad gas one that doesn't really put out heat, but it looks so pretty! It's so warm here most of the year, so when it's finally cool enough we can light candles, I'm very happy.

Week's Challenges: Trying to eat well and keep my weight gain in check.
