35 weeks just found out I have GD- vent

I went for my 1 hour at 28 weeks and failed. went to the 3 hour at 30 weeks and failed 1 draw by 2pts so my doc had me repeat the test 4 weeks later. Flash forward to this week. I repeated the 3hour Wednesday and just got a call from the nurse that I failed 2 draws and have GD. She didn't have the numbers but I see my doc Monday.

Classes are on Wednesday afternoons, but might not be held this week because it is the day before the holiday. So it's possible I won't even start 'treatment' until the following Wednesday. At which point I'll be 36w4d

I'm so aggravated right now. I just want to do what's right for the baby, but really what good is treatment now? I'll be nearly 37 weeks!!!!

Ugh rant over thanks for listening.

Definitely get the guidelines from your doctor's office or nutrition specialist. Keeping your blood sugar numbers in check the last 4-6 weeks can actually make a huge difference in your baby's health and size. It can be a difficult transition but you can do it, good luck!

I'll ask for the nutritional info when I go in for my checkup on Monday.

The test a month ago was passing according to my practice, but my doc wanted to test again just to be safe. I just wish they had given me the nutritional info then.... When I asked about restrictions, She basically said don't worry about it until we get the next results. I just feel like its so late, and I could have been doing something all along.

You can find the nutritional info online and on the boards, so you can start following this weekend. You don't have to wait until Monday. Sorry it took so long for your Dx.

If it helps at all, my MFM doc told me that most women would fail the GD test this far into pregnancy due to the increasing size of the placenta and the hormone it releases. That's why we test when we do. Still, you should have been advised to follow a GD diet all along. Call the diabetic counselor. They should be able to email you some guidelines. I've never been able to attend a class due to preeclampsia related bed rest. Instead, they email and call me to review my results and concerns. Don't let them just push your concerns aside without giving you some information.

Rediculous. But regardless google diabetic diet and start following it. Veggies. Protein. Low carb. Walk every day. That's the treatment.

That's ridiculous that your diagnosis took so long. I'm sorry. For now just try to limit your carbs to 30-40 per meal. Lots of protein and whole grains. If you can control it with diet at least the next couple of weeks won't seem like your entire pregnancy.. I guess that's the bright side?!

I have GD, I able to control through diet and walking.  I cut out ALL sugar.  if I have to have something I eat something with less that 9gs.I drink ALOT of water and at dinner time. I have 1/2 cup of juice and dilute it with water. I eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies. And Proteins and whole grain bread. I try to add fats to fresh veggie and fruit like peanut butter with apples or ranch dressing with carrots and celery.  hope this helps.

I'm also GD.  If you have questions or want my experience you can PM me.  The good news is, you only have to deal with it for a few weeks and hopefully there's no affect on LO.
