What clothes are you packing in your hospital bag?

This is my 3rd time, so you'd think it wouldn't be such a hard decision at this point, but I'm struggling!

So far I have 2 pairs of yoga pants, 1 pair of pj pants, 1 nursing tank and 1 nursing bra and various pairs of underwear.  Pretty much all of that is black, and I'd like to pack something not black, but I'm not sure shirt-wise.  I guess a zippered hoodie would be good, how about a robe?  Just a plain long sleeve top?  Maternity/not maternity?   I'd like to think that I could wear a non-maternity top home, even if it doesn't look that good.  So what clothes are you planning to pack?

Nursing tank, yoga pants, fuzzy socks, hoodie, nightgown and robe (not sure I'll use these, but just in case). Then I'll have the clothes I come in with (most likely jeans and a sweater).

ETA: I also thought about packing a tankini top, in case I decide to use the birth pool. Not sure whether I'll use it, but I thought it might be good to have.

  • All of my stuff is black or gray too. I'm bringing pretty much the same stuff you are.

  • For during labor: a pair of PJ pants that can get ruined in case I am walking around the halls of the hospital so I'm not just in a gown; a sports bra that can get ruined to wear under the gown; slippers and warm socks

For after the baby is born: maternity yoga pants, nursing tanks, and a robe

I figure I will just go home in whatever outfit I wore to the hospital (unless I end up going right from work to the hospital in which case I will have DH get me a pair of yoga pants, a tshirt, and a hoodie from home).
  • A robe, 2 pairs of pajamas, a few pairs of comfy socks, a few pairs of underwear and yoga pants with a pink thermal shirt to wear home.

  • I have yoga pants, camis, underwear, nursing bras and fuzzy socks :)

  • Most of my stuff is black as well, sweat pants, pj shorts, a loose tshirt, a nursing tank, and a pink tank. fuzzy socks, loads of undies, and a zip up hoodie. nothing fancy at all.
    Welcome Lily Anna!

  • I have all black too. 2 yoga pants, nursing tanks, underwear, socks, plain tshirts, night gowns I just purchased at target (can't believe I haven't been wearing these sooner, it's stretchy and so comfy), slippers that I use at home and will throw away there (getting myself a new pair for when I'm back home), small travel size shampoo, conditioner and body wash, flip flops for shower, nursing bras, a robe, probably a zip up sweater that I'll wear going into the hospital. All comfy clothes!

  • I have a few pairs of underwear, socks, tank tops, sweatshirt, and a going home outfit. I plan on staying in the hospital gowns most of the time. Less laundry and I won't ruin my stuff.
  • A robe, a long sleeved flyaway cardigan, a gownie, fuzzy socks and a sleep bra for time at the hospital.  To wear when leaving a nursing tank, a zip up hoodie and yoga pants.  I plan on using the mesh underwear rather than buying black underwear that will most likely be destroyed.

Good call on the slippers.  I almost mentioned that as a tip, to take old or cheap slippers because I ended up throwing mine away both times.  And thank you for the flip flop reminder, I forget those every time!!!

  • I'm bringing 1 pair of mat. Yoga pants, 1 nursing tank, a nursing bra, 1 mat top, a sweater, fuzzy socks, slippers and a robe. I'm not bringing a night gown or anything because I'm just planning on staying in my hospital gown. I will prob bring a pair or 2 of mat. undies but prob. Won't wear them and just go with the hospital disposables.

Ok, so I don't want to say that staying in the hospital gown wasn't an option at the hospital I delivered my first two at, but I don't think it was the norm or encouraged for vaginal births.  The nurses brought me towels and stuff for my shower, and of course the lovely mesh underwear, but they didn't bring a clean gown, I think I was expected to put on my own clothes at that point.  Which was fine by me, it was nice to have my own, albeit sloppy, clothes on.  It might be different for a c-section.

For those thinking of leggings, are you concerned your big giant pad is going to look funny?  I was thinking leggings might be good and comfy for coming home but I'd have to find a top long enough that it didn't look like I was the one wearing the diaper!

eta: clearly I'm overthinking this.  gotta love being type A
