When to install carseat... DH's thought

So last week my husband wanted to bring the stroller and car seat to storage.  I said that seems silly, we'll need to install the car seat in a few weeks may as well leave it here.  By the look on my husbands face I could tell he had no idea we would be installing the car seat early or what a serious process it is.  I asked him... what did you plan on doing have me go into labor and throw it in the car?  He said yes, that was what he was thinking.  Last night we were having dinner with friends and I was poking fun at the conversation, he admitted he actually didn't even think we were bringing a car seat to the hospital!!  He thought we delivered, someone held the baby on the way home and we would install the car seat later since the baby wouldn't be in the car for WEEKS he said!!  Thank goodness we have classes starting this weekend.

    Luckily, my husband was listening when the hospital explained that they will not release a baby without a car seat!

    Still, the hospital is like 10 minutes from our house, and we'll be staying at the hospital a couple days after the birth.  If the seat is not installed when I go into labor, he can go home and fetch it quite easily.

    We had a birthing class last night. Our instructor said that we should have the car seat installed by 37 weeks. She also suggested to have it professionally checked. We're from San Diego, and she told us to go to this website called seatcheck.org. We just type our zip code in and it will tell us where to go to get our car seat installation professionally checked. Good luck!

    lol...We wound up throwing the carseat in the car when my water broke..DH installed it in the hospital parking lot, only took him maybe 15 minutes? Really wasn't too bad especially if you have LATCH in your car..funny that he thought baby wouldn't need it for awhile but still possible to get it installed if you haven't by the time baby comes!

    That's funny! DH said that we'll keep ours in the garage and plans to install one base in his car right before he goes to or right after he gets back from California to pick up his daughter for winter break. It'll go in around December 19 or 22. He's done this before though which helps me feel calmer about LO's arrival in general.
