Photos for Christmas cards?

So, I bowed to peer pressure and scheduled professional pics Saturday morning for DS and DSS. I feel like everyone I know is getting professional pictures done. It seems like not that long ago you *might* get a school pic tucked in your Christmas card. Then people slowly started with the photo cards, using candids. Now this. Is it like this in your circles? I feel sort of foolish, but then again I know I will love the pics and have them forever.

Re: Photos for Christmas cards?

  • We mostly get photo cards. I started sending them last year because people just want to see pics of DD.

  • I did prof photos this year because I got this super cute dress for DD and I wanted to have the pictures to show it off some. I really don't think I will do this every year though.

  • Hold the phone @BPaws...,you feel pressure to do pro pics? Meaning you took all those pictures of H? You do not need professional pictures! Yours are amazing! I wish you could see the disaster that was our attempt at a do it yourself photo shoot last weekend. One decent shot of DS out of like 75, and you can only see his profile!

  • We usually do picture Christmas cards. Only 1 year was proffesional. This year a friend took some pictures for us so we'll be using those.

  • I took T out and did an impromptu DIY shoot because the light and weather was just so irresistible last week. I shot over 100 images and only 1 is usable! But a lot of people I know don't even send cards anymore. I like to show off sometimes so that's why I'm doing them haha! Maybe that's my FFFC?

  • Had we not just had family pictures done when DS turned one, we would have had Christmas pics done. They're so nice to have.

  • We had Christmas pictures done of our son. I love sending our friends and family photo cards and they say they love getting them (which I'm hoping is true!). I also love having the pictures. Our photographer offers holiday mini sessions so they are pretty affordable too.

  • I had a Groupon to Picture people. We're using the ones in my siggy.

  • I fell to the pressure as well and we are having professional pic done this weekend.  They will be holiday pics and initially they were just going to be LO until I realized we have no photos of the three of us that look like a portrait.   Since we are expecting I figured we better get a shot of the three of us while we can.

  • Humm ... I don't think I felt pressure per say, but realized in the past few years it was something that I wanted and worth the investment (as long as the price was within reason).  I guess the reasoning is that I do have regrets about our wedding photos.  We got married 11 years ago, and photographers were just starting to use digital.  It was at a time when you had to decide if you wanted to hire someone who used digital or someone who used film.  (ug, that makes me sound old!)  I opted for film.  IMO at the time digital was still too new, too expensive, and too grainy.  Alot changed quickly after that and the images were alot better! Friends who got married only a few years after me did digital.  My friends got like 10x more pics than I did (since my photographer package included a certain number of rolls of film).  So I didn't have a lot of candids - most of my wedding photos are the "staged" kind.  Don't get me wrong, I love my wedding photos, but wish there was a little bit more to them.  I wish I had some artsy ones.

When I was pregnant I found a local photographer who had resonable prices.  So I signed up for a pregnancy session and a newborn session.  I was so impressed with what I got, that now I am hooked!  After we did those two, I signed up for more!  In DDs first year we did a few session: newborn, christmas, 6 months, and 1 year.  We just did this years christmas photos last weekend.  I think next year we might just do one at christmas time.

Don't get me wrong, I take a million pictures, and if I'm lucky I might get one decent one.  But I like having some really good ones to documnet her first year!  My DH has already told me that next year I can't schedule as many!  LOL!
