new job blues

Well, I was going to post this anon (though it wouldn't be hard to figure out who I am), but apparently now there's a waiting period on TheBump to be able to start new threads.

I just started a new job about 2 weeks ago. It was a $10K raise! It's going okay, but I'm REALLY missing my old co-workers and the flexibility and culture/atmosphere of my old job.

Everyone is nice at my new job, but the culture is completely different. And weird rules, like we can't have any food at our desks.  It will take some getting used to. I'm wondering if I made a mistake. :(

Maybe it's just all the craziness going on in my life, in the last month I switched jobs, had a miscarriage, and my grandma passed away. That's a lot of change all at once.

Just need to vent and a shoulder to cry on... I will give it a chance, but part of me wants to go beg for my old job back. I'm trying to focus on the positive that people are nice, I'm learning a lot, and getting paid more while doing so!

Re: new job blues

  • Transitions are hard. Moving out of my comfort zone always makes me second guess myself. You've had a lot to deal with and I hope things start leveling out soon for you!!!!
  • Loading the player...
  • Give yourself some time. I moved from a very slid back job where I traveled all day to a more structured one in one building, for a big raise. For about the first two months, I cried. I missed my freedom, my friends, the culture. But then I adjusted, and now I love it (mist of the time). It's hard to transition, especially when you feel like money was the motivating factor.

  • All the PP nailed it. Try to give yourself some time. I hope things start looking up real soon for you.

  • Hang in there! You will adjust to the new job and the salary increase is a good move for supporting your family. Give yourself some time.

  • Give it some time.  When DH switched jobs a few years ago he hated it at first.  It took a few months but he ended up loving the job and it led to some awesome opportunities.

You have had a tough few months and I am sure it is not easy to be going through a change during this time.

    Hang in there.

  • You have been through some very major life events recently and I know that swiching jobs is not easy.  I agree with all the PP's give yourself some time to adjust.  Even if the job were great, you would still probably miss things about your old jobs, I always have.
