Gate Check Bags for Stroller and CarSeat?

For those of you that have flown with your LOs ... did you get gate check bags for your stroller and carseat?  Wondering it they are worth it or just a waist of money.  I can get both on Amazon for less than $20 total.

I mean, how dirty can my stuff get?

Got pregnant on our own without Fertility Treatments - January 2016!  Thank you snow storm Jonas!
EDD 10/15/16
At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

Re: Gate Check Bags for Stroller and CarSeat?

  • I don't. It does get dusty but a vacuume with a curtain and couch attachment does the trick.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Loading the player...
  • We did. One trip our gate check bag had a small rip in it and another trip it had a huge grease smear. I would've been really mad if that had happened to the carseat.

  • We buy a seat for DD and take our carseat on the plane, but we have this bag for the stroller:

It's not super fancy or super protective, but I think it protects the stroller a bit and keeps it cleaner.

  • For us... it was worth every penny! When we got our stroller and seat back, there was black grease marks all over the bag. (must have been on the bottom or something) I say get it!  Try CL too..

  • Yes do it. Even a garbage bag is better than nothing.

  • Thanks!  My gut told me to go ahead and get them ... but I had a feeling that DH would tease me for buying something else that we'll only use once!  LOL!

I did check out CL, with no luck.  The J.L. Childress Gate Check Bags for a stroller and carseat are less than $10 each on Amazon!  So I guess its not too much to spend just to be on the safe side!

We flew once before when she was ~2 months.  We gate checked her chicco infant carseat and her chicco stroller caddy ... and had no issues (without putting them in a bag).  But they were pretty small and easy for the folks to easily transport on and off the plane. Remember those nice handles on the carseat!  But her convertable carseat is is much more cumbersome, so I think its more liekly to get pushed around!  Plus we're traveling over thanksgiving, so I'm sure the workers are going to be overworked!  (and more likely to not be as careful as they normally are).

Quetion:  Another question ... any tricks to transporting your convertable carseat through the airport?  I saw this on Amazon.  But wasn't sure if a bungie cord would work just as well (that is assuming I put DD in a stroller and not in her carseat attached to my bag).

We travel a lot, so we invested in this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Go-Go-Babyz-QRKIDZ-Kidz-Travelmate/dp/B000JJK9EY

It turns the carseat into a stroller and DD loves riding in it. We bring our carseat on the plane, and it folds down and goes in the overhead bin.

Another option that I see parents doing at airports is wearing the convertible carseat like a backpack - so using the carseat straps as backpack straps.
