can we discuss lochia?

Does anyone have lochia that spots on a pad, then will randomly have a period-like sensation of a gush, but that is the worst part? I've had this happen once a day for the past two days.

I'm 10d post-op.

Re: can we discuss lochia?

  • Reading the title, my first reaction is "Ugh, no we can't."

I had some clotting that stepped up right around the 10-day mark. Sounds pretty normal to me.

Mine has been super super light. After two days I was just wearing a regular pad and then in a few more a pantyliner. Saw the dr Thursday and she said it might pick up again as my activity increases but really most women just have "nuisance bleeding" for about six weeks.

  • I'm 16 days postpartum and still experience that gushing sensation, but only when I breastfeed. Though it eased up a lot and has gotten lighter.

  • As you recover, each time you tackle a new task that you haven't been able to do before you should expect your lochia flow to increase -- even to a gushing sensation. Your activity level will naturally become greater as you heal...  expect your bleeding to match.

Lochia flow can already be gone, but it can also last for weeks beyond your typical "6 week" mark.

  • I randomly had gushes too.  It happened on days when I actually got out of bed. ;)
  • I get them frequently when the clots come out. Totally normal.

  • Yes, I've had that too. Gushes when I breast feed and if I do more activity wise like stairs or walking around a lot.
